Hiya....new to the site but I've been type 1 for 22 years. This last 6 months I've been self funding the freestyle libre and seen a dramatic turn around in bm control. I still have my highs n lows but I now feel more in control of this dreaded disease.

I've been told I can have a pump in 6 months so I'm feeling really positive.

Looking to gain more more knowledge and tips to assist me on my journey x

Hello @Norfolkgirl welcome to the forum.
We have a few pumpers on here who I am sure will help with any questions you have. You may find you get more replies and useful info on the pumping forum
I love my Libre ,it’s been a game changer for me.

Thank you for your reply ☺ I'll be injecting for another 6 months and as I've never been a member of a diabetic group or forum i thought this would be a good place for ideas on diet, exercise and bm control.
The freestyle is certainly a game changer and I would feel naked without mine....i wear mine as a badge of honour x

Hi Norfolkgirl, welcome to the forum 🙂 Great to hear the news about your pump in prospect - why do you have to wait 6 months though, isn't 22 years long enough? 😉 The Libre was a revelation to me, you never want a good sensor to end! A few of our members have managed to get them on prescription - have you tried going down that route yet?

Feel free to ask any questions you may have 🙂

Hi
I've just seen a new specialist 25 miles from my home as a appointment at my local hospital was going to take 30 weeks !!!! Yes 22 years is long enough but I'm just happy and extremely excited of the prospect that is now on my horizon....i wanted to cry when the specialist told me....with my freestyle libre and the new pump I will finally feel lime I'm in control.
Sadly the freestyle live isn't available in my area but if I lived 9 miles up the road in Lincolnshire it would be. I have signed many petitions to stop this postcode lottery and hopefully in the foreseeable future it will become available on prescription.

Welcome Norfolkgirl
As you have suggested the combination of a Libre and a pump makes for a much easier management of T1 and a sense of confidence and more control. I look forward to hearing how you get on with getting the pump.

Hi Norfolkgirl, I'm just in Suffolk (the border is under a mile away!). I do have a pump, but not a libre. I agree it is a shame about the postcode lottery - it's a blanket no from my CCG.

Hi @Norfolkgirl and welcome to the forum. 🙂 Just over 6 months into the pump for me and it's great. I put down my thoughts on using it after a couple of months. It might give you some idea of what's involved.

The initial set up takes a bit of effort and simply getting to used to it after so long on injections but I think it's worth it. Good that you're using the Libre. I've been using it on and off (a lot more off due to cost) for around 2.5 years. Our CCG has apparently finally given the go ahead to fund them and now they're trying to work out the criteria for who will get them. I'm hopeful but holding my breath. 🙄 As you mention hopefully in time everyone will have access to them via the NHS.

Hi Norfolkgirl, glad you found the forum. 🙂
