Hi Mammyspippy. Welcome to the forum. How are you?
The first thing I want to say is that now is the most difficult time. You and your son have a lot of new things to deal with and a new way of life to get used to. If you’re anything like I was, you’re probably a bit confused and wondering where this journey will take you. Well, the journey you both take is up to you. Yes, diabetes presents challenges that can’t be imagined until you have to deal with it, but life can still be lived, your son still has a future he can look forward to and dictate. The confusion will clear, I promise. You will learn a bit more each day and eventually, you will feel confident dealing with it.
My son is the same age as yours, he and his sister were diagnosed a few months apart about nine years ago. My daughter has swum competitively, and my son also swims (although not competitively) and wants to take up MMA – I guess I’d better be nice to him from now on
How have the school reacted? Have staff been trained by the hospital team, yet?
The book SB2015 recommended is excellent and is considered the book to have by parents. As she said, no question is too silly. I have been where you are now, as have others here, so ask anything you want.
Take care
