Type 2
Hi

I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago with Type 2 diabetes. Been really good for 3 weeks only lost a pound so far. Calorie counting and carb counting. Doctor wants me to try diet instead of medication.

Good to hear that your Dr is letting you try to manage things without meds for a while.

Can you remember your HbA1c at diagnosis? It will have been a number above 48mmol/mol and gives an idea of your glucose levels over the previous 3-4months.

Reducing calories can really help with weight management, and keeping an eye on total carbs (not just ‘of which sugars’) is a very direct way to improve your blood glucose levels

Are you aiming for a specific amount of calories and carbs per day?

Hi
If I phone my doctors will they tell me what my number was. I am aiming for 1400 cals at the moment. I thought I was counting carbs as well as calories but I haven't been which will explain why I haven't lost much weight. Do you know a free carb counter app that's easy to use. Thank you for getting back to me. Nice to meet you.

Hi, I was diagnosed 8 weeks ago with a HbA1c of 50 have been counting carbs and calories, following recommendations on here I bought the book carbs & cals and down loaded the app of the same name. I have found it invaluable in measuring and calculating what I'm eating. I have also read and looked at https:/www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/enjoy-food/eating-with-diabetes/i-have-type-2-diabetes on this site which gives lots of information and recipes. 🙂
