As 2020 approaches, I once again ponder the possibility of New Year resolutions. There has been many a year when they have just turned out to be a ‘to do’ list for the 1st week of January, that then disappeared into the mists (or missed!).

It is though a good time for review and on how things are going. For me in the context of health, I have taken a few steps back of late resulting in a slow creep of BS levels in the wrong direction. I need a few less lapses in the healthy eating context, but I think a major contributor has been a drop off in exercise and lowering of fitness level.

So, my resolution for 2020 is to increase my walking regime, gradually increasing time and distance to get back to previous levels. In previous years I have always completed the Diabetes UK London Bridges challenge each October, but this year I was just not fit enough for this. So my goal is to be fit enough to complete it again in 2020.

It would be interesting to hear about anyone else’s resolutions, and maybe we can try and help each other stay with them.

Anyway very best wishes to all on the forum for good health and happiness in 2020

Beat my eating disorder finally, (I hope) xx

Eat more lettuce.

I like to set a low bar 🙂

Mine is to lose another stone (ideally 2)
Get fitter
Not let my anxiety get the better of me constantly
Be more positive
Be more outgoing
Slow down a little and enjoy life more

I have lots of work ahead of me!

I’ve got a few things just nibbling at the edges, including a bit of a change that will be happening early in Jan I hope.

Another thing I’ve decided to try to add in is regular music practice, starting with at least 30 mins a day. Rather than just ‘wanting to find more time for...’ it feels like a smallish regular daily commitment might be a way of actually making it happen. We shall see!

what do you play? xx

I’d like to improve my guitar playing mainly. But also bass, harmonica and even a little cajon!

I’ve bought some online and DVD tuition resources for a bit of a new year guitar widdling :D

I've played many instruments over the years, starting with the recorder in primary school, then the violin, moved to the high school and started the chanter, keyboard, drums and guitar (I played guitar when I was little as my big cousin who lived with my grandad was in a band) I still have an electric guitar but haven't had it out in a while xx

I don’t usually make resolutions but this year, back injury recovery dependant, I want to do the 1000 mile walking challenge which is through a country walking magazine I subscribe to. I did the 1 million step challenge in 3 months for Diabetes UK a few years ago and that equates to 500 miles so it should be doable. There’s plenty of support, ie through a FB group and the magazine has supplied a chart etc. I not doing it to raise money or anything it’s just something for myself. I also want to read 100 books next year. Last year I read 81, this year I’m just on with my 82nd. If I don’t manage either it’s not the end of the world, but it will be fun trying. 🙂

Are you sure there are enough hours in the day?

I want to be fit enough to enjoy my holiday in April without my walking stick! All the Aquafit I've been doing since diagnosis has helped enormously. And I want to fit into my cropped trousers!

Sounds great @Felinia

Hope your efforts continue to give you the results you are looking for and deserve. Hope the holiday is lovely!

Mine are not New Year resolutions as such, but I have signed up to the RED challenge to be active every day during January, and joined with my colleague not to eat chocolate from 1st Jan until Easter Monday, I know that might sound easy being diabetic, but that also includes hot chocolate and anything made with cocoa powder.

Other than that I want to complete my first half marathon in March and add yoga into my routine and have more energy.

My plan is to do less! I keep trying new things and forgetting to give up old activities, so find that I just don’t get time to do any weaving. However that plan has already failed as I have signed up for the Unphilarmonic Orchestra, but it is just once a month. It is a chance for anyone who has not played for ages, to dust off their old instruments and have a go (my flute had sat there unplayed for a long while). It has got me doing a little bit of practice, so that is a start. Now I just have to work out what to stop doing!!

Thank you for that, it brought a chuckle... 🙂

I have always found it difficult to keep resolutions, so stopped doing them, but this year is going to be different! 🙄
Nothing major, but even though my HbA1c was only 37 and has been well under control for two years or so, I am eager to improve things still further. I lost four and a half stones initially, but put half a stone back on and discovered I have added another four pounds over the festive period, 😳 so that has to go, along with a few pounds more if I can manage it by June and my next test, I would like to be one and a half stone lighter, should be doable. I also intend to do more exercise, starting with just more walking, but will vary it if I can. I have to go for my other eye to be " welded, " soon and have found that threat of more treatment, to be a very great motivator! :D

I'm doing well so far this year - 100g of lettuce per day! Yee-haw!

Agree about eye-welding - maybe best day last year was being told that my eye had improved a bit & I don't yet need eyeball injections. So I guess my other NY resolution is to keep on worrying about it because that seemed to work well 🙂

Good luck with yours!

I don't yet need eyeball injections.
Thank you. 🙂
Got to say the threat of the needles in my eyes, terrifies me and I find it baffling that people do not get motivated by this threat... ( Such as my wife's uncle. )
Luckily for me it is just the laser that I am facing, which whilst unpleasant, is manageable. ( I am very, very squeamish about eyes and anyone going near mine! 😳 )

Mine is to loose 13lbs more . Already lost 7 stone so should be easy ... not
