Hello All.

Been reading various threads and getting my nerve up to sign up etc.
Diagnosed T2 December 2009. controlled with diet and exercise until September 2017 when put on Metformin.

By the way Tesco also sell Burgen bread, Bought some, an acquired taste, and at least it is not dry as wholemeal is.

Well that's broken the duck.
PS Telavag is small town on West coast of Norway, which I found to my liking.

Hello and welcome to the forum, no need to be cautious we are a friendly bunch. We look forward to seeing you post and if you have any questions at all we are more then happy to help, that’s what this is all about, helping, listening and supporting each other. As regards the bread I found the weight watchers bread at 9g a slice the best, but we all have different tastes.
Never been to Norway but what a wonderful country it looks, are you having a heat wave there as well, it’s way too hot here, I’m in Brighton on the south coast.

Welcome to the forum @Telavag , glad that you have plucked up the courage to post.
We look forward to hearing more from you.

We love Norway. I shall have to find Telavag.

Like you SueEK, I am in West Sussex. Visited Norway for first time last year.
Currently compiling plans for return next year.

SB2015 Telavarg is on one of the islands West of Bergen. for any WW11 history buffs look up Shetland Bus.

We have been at the other end of the Shetland bus histories.
I wondered why I recognised the name of the place.
We love Scandinavia, and prefer their colder climate.

Sweden next for us.

Hi and welcome 🙂
Burgen is an acquired taste, I prefer it toasted, for sandwiches I tend to buy Sainsbury’s own low carb bread, it’s actually lower than Burgen, softer and tastier but it’s expensive for half the size but I think it’s worth it 😛

Is it called Sainsbury's low carb bread?

It’s a half loaf size, sliced and has low carb written on the packaging, Sainsbury’s own brand
Just dug the package out the bin, it’s actually Hovis Lower Carb

At 10 gm per slice the Hovis lower carb is over double what can be found - but it depends what you can cope with.

Oh thanks I have tried that I am not keen.

It is better to avoid bread entirely than try to eat something that is just a bit better than the ordinary stuff - at least, that is what I find with substitutes - I don't mind the really low carb 4 gm of carb per slice stuff, but even then I ration it so I do not get a space in my diet which can only be filled with breadlike foods.

Hey @Drummer, what have you found that’s lower? I’d love to try it?
There is Livlife, at 4 gm of carb per small slice - I get mine in Waitrose.
Asda have a protein bread which is like a brown brick - only 5 slices, each slice is 50 gm - so you know when you have eaten one. It is quite expensive, but only 4 gm per slice.
The local Polish supermarket also has a brown brick 5 slice option, also with 4 gm of carb, but it is more expensive than the Asda one - but available up to midnight, so it there is a desperate need for bread, that is the place to find it.

Hi Telavag
Welcome to the forum. I was like you so nervous at the thought of coming on here. My first thread I was so scared. I have had such helpful and lovely replies to all I have written. I am so glad I did get the courage to sign up here 2 weeks ago. 😉
I am trying to get some low carb bread, so I will be looking to get some this week.

Thanks Drummer, that’s half what I’m eating now so guess I’m on my way to Waitrose tomorrow :D

Just wanted to say thanks Drummer, I went to Waitrose and bought a loaf of Livlife today, had a bacon sandwich for lunch, have to say that although the slices are a bit smaller they are MUCH tastier than Burgen and nowhere near as dry. This will definitely be my go to bread from now on 😛
