Hi, I was diagnosed 2012 and tried everything, now on Humulin each night plus tabets, how many times a day should I test ? Its not easy getting test stripes from my GP ?

Welcome to the forum, Dave Sangster.
I'm assuming you mean Humalin I, not Humalin R (100 = normal strength short acting; 500 = concentrated short acting, taken with meals), Humalin M3 (mixed short & long acting, taken twice a day).
On single long acting injection, minimum test times are before bedtime injection, when getting up and, assumig you drive, before each time setting off, plus every 2 hours on longer trips. If you have a driving licence, you need to inform DVLA, which will direct you to this advice, plus keeping hypoglycaemia remedies in car.

Welcome Dave & Paul

Welcome Dave and Paul with any hypo causing meds I test before meals and normally around 2 hours after but not always after (if around the house), if driving then it's test before driving then every 2 hours at a max.

Your GP should be supporting you with enough test strips to cater for your requirements, a lot of docs / DN's believe type 2's don't need to test and from my own experience even suggesting I break DVLA guidelines.

If you do drive, it's a subject you could bring to the docs / DN's attention that you need more test strips to meet with DVLA's guide lines on driving and testing.

Hello and welcome to the forum Dave and Paul. 🙂

Hi @Dave Sangster and welcome to the forum!

If you are on insulin you should be prescribed test strips by your GP because of the risk of hypos, especially if you drive. Take a look at Diabetes UK's 'Testing Times' pack which has some advice on how you can challenge any restrictions that are placed on you:

You can also contact our Helpline on 0345 123 2399 to talk to someone about testing and your diabetes. Please keep us updated on how you're getting on with things 🙂
