New to this Site - 7 months as T2

One thing to note is that many diets fall into the Low Carb realm, not just Ketogenic..... I would probably even do well on a Mediterranean style Diet.
 
Thank you, as a LCHF myself, it is preaching to the converted! And I do think PHE are dragging their feet badly over this. (I did read somewhere that they are conducting a study that will report back in 2017, sorry can't find the reference, but I'm not holding my breath.) My point about DUK was that I thought ( and this is a personal opinion) that they might have to keep a foot in both camps.
The thing about LCHF from the point of view of discussion on forums, is that not everyone is in a position to do it, people who have gall bladder problems, for example, and can't eat fat, so I would hope that discussions can continue to embrace a range of diets that suit the individual.
Looking at the broader picture, the problem is the 'establishment' is still adhering to a set of nutritional guidelines that were first introduced in 1994 - the Eatwell Plate. The current Quango overseeing the government's health initiatives is PHE who slightly updated it in 2014 and called it the Eatwell Guide (EG). The actual EG is produced on behalf of PHE for the government by a charity called the British Nutrition Foundation. This organisation's membership includes: British Sugar plc, Mars UK Ltd, McDonald's Restaurants Ltd, United Biscuits (UK) Limited, Coca-Cola Great Britain and Ireland, Tate & Lyle... the list goes on and on and does include TESCO. I don't think it's in the best interests of diabetes suffers that the UK's biggest voice in diabetes "has to keep a foot in both camps", especially when it can so easily develop into neuropathy if not treated correctly through a lack of best advice and information.

I see where you're coming from, the reason I think 'foot in both camps', is this:-
1)DUK does provide a lot of useful support for diabetics, their advocacy packs and Careline for example, and this forum.
2) A lot of HCPs are still dishing out the Eatwell guidelines, because that's what they were taught. (There's another thread started recently about the Channel 5 GP surgery programme, where the DSN is doing just this)

I would just hate it if those types of dinosaur DSNs start warning people 'don't go on the DUK website, it's full of cranky nonsense' That's why I said that I think they have to tread carefully.

Unfortunately, a lot of senior health, dietary and nutrition practitioners have built their careers and wealth through the HCLF philosophy and it is going to take a long time to move them over from the dark side. I'm starting to convert my diabetes support at my surgery and forums like this and the diabetes.co.uk website all help to get the message to a larger audience alongside professionals like Tim Noakes, Zoe Harcombe, Stephen Phinney, Jason Fung and many more.
