New to the UK, how long will it take me to get covered on the NHS?

Hello everyone!

Just as the title says, I’m new to the UK and on a spousal visa. I have an appointment at my local medical centre next week, not sure what I should do or prepare for?

I’m currently on an old Medtronic pump, fiasp insulin, and freestyle libre sensors.

I see sensors are like £100 for a pack of two, and I can’t even find info on pump consumables. Nor do I know what insulin costs..

Is it fairly easy to get my insulin covered by the NHS? can I get covered on the NHS for all my goodies like pump consumables and sensors?

Any help or guidance appreciated

Hello everyone

Just moved to the UK from Soutb Africa and about to go see a GP and hopefully get referred to a diabetic centre.

My question is, how hard is it going to be to get covered for all my current medications?

I am on Fiasp Insulin 6x cartridges per month, use an older medtronic insulin pump and freestyle libre sensors.

I have a recommendation letter from my endocrinologist done just before I arrived. it basically states what pump and cgm I’m on, what treatments, how ive suffered with lows in the past and how the pump and cgm have helped with that, and how the doctor...

Have you registered with a GP?

Yes I am registered.
 
As explained, pumps aren’t automatic and there are many Type 1s here without an insulin pump. Have you asked to be referred to a specialist? A pump would be a consultant decision not a GP one.

Im sure when my wife first came to the UK (on a spouse visa)
at that time her visa was clearly marked as “no resource to public funds” and I’m thinking this might’ve been the case until she was granted indefinite leave to remain, not 100% sure ?
I might be wrong, and appreciate regulations might be different these days as that was 20 yrs ago
 
The rules are quite complicated but you should be entitled to care under the NHS as you would presumably have paid the Immigration Health Surcharge when you applied for the spouse visa.
But do check both with the NHS and Immigration conditions.
