Type 1
hi everyone. Initially diagnosed type 2 but then after a year declared type 1. On insulin for the last three years. Still trying to get my hba1c under 50. Last reading was 64. I am hypo thyroid too. That is not helping either. Can't get that right too. When taking 125 mg levothyroxin it is too much and when I take 100 it is less. Doctors are unable to get it right and I struggle to get my sugar in control. I am gaining weight too Whic is an added stress. Really frustrated at the moment.

Welcome, I also have thyroid problems and am alternating between 100 and 125 mg. I have just been diagnosed diabetic and see a specialist on Friday about what type, what to do etc. in the couple of days I have been here, I have been made welcome and have had a lot of great advice.

Hello Ghazala, and welcome. I'm another one who was initially diagnosed Type 2 then rediagnosed correctly about 6 months in.

Hi Ghazala, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear you were initially misdiagnosed, it seems to happen an awful lot more than you might imagine, chiefly, I think, due to the assumption that only children can become Type 1 so an adult must be Type 2 :( Still, good to hear that you finally got the correct diagnosis and treatment. What insulin are you on? Do you have any particularly difficult times of day, where you find your control difficult? Please let us know if we can help in any way 🙂

Thanks for your reply. Yes, my morning readings are high plus I used to experience night time hypos. My doctor has split the units of levemir into 4 units at night and 10 units in the morning. This has helped in reducing night hypos. But I still don't get good morning readings. I am on levemir and novorapid.
Last time my consultant asked me to go on pump but I was reluctant. I wanted to try again to get my hba1c right. However looks like I have failed. Also really going into obese side as my weight is not stopping instead of diet control and exercise. I am all the time stressing about it.
I want to ask a question. I have two friends who have been prescribed forxiga tablet and it is helping them with weight reduction and better control. One is a type 1 and the other is type 2. I have seen both of them loosing so much weight. Can I ask my doctor to prescribe forxiga? Because when I started insulin I remember my nurse said that you should be prepared to gain some weight with insulin but then she said I will give you metformin with it which will help to keep your weight in control.
I have my hospital appointment next month.

Hi Sarah
Same here I keep alternating between 100 and 125 but can never get my thyroid levels right. Which in turn doesn't help my diabetes. Good luck with your appointment.

Hi
Good that they rediagnosed you sooner. Good luck with your management.

Hi and welcome to the forum - I too am Hypothyroid as well as Diabetic - just had my Levo increased to 150 yesterday in the hopes of stabilizing everything!

Hi guys, I have seen my GP. Still a little confused but at the moment I do not have to take any medication for the diabetes, just have to keep a check on my levels using a pee stick! I have another appointment to go back in 3 months. The usual referrals for eyes and feet as well as a dietician (I am also coeliac) and I am good to go. They don't seem all that worried.
