I have noticed that some of the sausages which are high meat content but also have other stuff in the like leek or chilli are a bit higher carb than the plain ones but still not bad per sausage.
Flavoured still or sparkling water is usually sugar free. Somebody mentioned fruit tea infusions but not tried myself.

There is no reason why not from a carb content point of view but some people are more sensitive to artificial sweeteners but most are OK with it.

Welcome to the forum @Alison pullin

Sounds like you are making great progress!

Keep asking questions, and picking the brains of the forum.

I hope over time familiarity will lessen the anxiety with fingerpricks, (this has happened to other members before), and that you might be able to use the results to check your own individual reactions to foods (checking before and after different meals). But in the meantime, be proud of yourself for keeping up with your daily BG checks.

Hopefully cutting back a bit on some of the carbs you are eating (not just the ‘of which sugars’ but reducing portions of things like rice, pasta, potatoes, bread, pastry, grains, cereals and some fruits, will help to reduce your higher results of late?

You might want to share your results on the 7 Day Waking Average thread, which is a regular chance for a check-in, a bit of a chat, and to get to know folks 🙂

High iam thinking of having a omlettee for lunch how many eggs am i allowed some1 told me 3 is ok so wount affect my diabettes.

Eggs are fine. They don't contain carbs. I usually just have 2 as that is enough for me but if you want 3 then have 3. I have all sorts of other things in my omelette to make it more filling, interesting and tasty (onion, peppers, mushrooms, courgette, aubergine, broccoli, ham, chicken, cheese, prawns etc) whatever I have in the fridge that I fancy or needs using up and I usually serve my omelette with a big plate of salad and a good dollop of coleslaw. Those are all pretty low carb foods which are ideal for managing diabetes through diet.

Hi @Alison pullin Making your own cakes gives you clear info about what has been included.
Dried fruit is quite high in carbs so would certainly make my levels spike if I ate something like that.
when I do make cakes or biscuits, we just make smaller ones, so I had still keep the carbs where I want them to be, and if it has ’spikey’ stuff in my smaller portion will have less impact.

Hi all can i make my own small cakes with canerel and currants in this wouldnt affect me would it.
Some sweeteners are not so good if cooked but I think Canderel now do some that are suitable for baking. People use ground almonds (almond flour) instead of flour in baking and it works quite well. There are some recipes on the site for low carb baking and I'm sure there are some for cakes, muffins, pancakes etc which you might like or look on the internet for keto or low carb recipes.
Some recipes use erythritol but some people are sensitive to too much and can get a gippy tummy.

You need to look at how much carbohydrate it says as the amount of 'sugar' is not the relevant thing.
It may then depend on what you have it with whether it will be OK for you.

Just looked it up, half a can is 10.1g carbohydrate as it says the can is 2 servings.

I agree with @Leadinglights - it is the total carbohydrate which is much more helpful than the ‘of which sugars’.

And in the cakes, it’s not only the sugar (which you are planning to replace with an alternative) which will raise your BG levels, but the flour in the cakes too. Which is why others have suggested ground almonds rather than regular flour.

One of our members @NotWorriedAtAll has quite a lot of experience with low carb baking and may be able to offer some pointers 🙂

Hi every1 can some1 advise please if you buy something with carbohydrates and sugar content and check both if it says 12% carbohydrate and 5g sugar does it mean in whole box or 1 item.

The thing you need to be concerned about is the carbohydrate NOT the sugar. 12% would normally mean 12g carb per 100g of the product. So if it was say a chocolate bar that weighed 50g then there would be 6g carbohydrate.
Some packets might say per cracker but would also have the per 100g carbohydrate value.
