Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi all, I'm a 51yr female T2 for 30 + years. Currently on Insulin, Victoza and Jardiance and also take Atorvastatin. Have worked in present job for 9 years and they have been aware of my Diabetes. Due to the nature of the company a bookies they have optimums they work to. I have complied with them always, doctors letter so I dont work on my own and expressing I have to eat and inject certain times and also company medical assessments. Needless to say I have never been contacted by HR or occupational health to discuss anything. I am only ment to work 1 hr on own but this gets broke so many times to fit the companies needs. I'm due to go back to work 15th but feeling rather stressed as they are only going by government guidelines and wont put any extra measures in place for vulnerable staff. We will have PPE in place and screens etc. They however want us to clean shop area every hour and also customer toilets. We may have to work in up to 5 different shops aswell. I have been panicking last 2 weeks, but am I over worrying about having to be on shop floor cleaning etc. I dont know if to speak to my doctor as the company seem to be taking a one size fits all approach.
What are peoples views on this

Hi and welcome to the forum @Cascada69
Im guessing the shops will all have measures in place to even be able to reopen and i cant imagine its really going to be that busy to start with so you'll get the lay of the land so to speak as you ease your way back in, just make sure you use the PPE provided and if you have to venture out into the shop make sure the punters keep their distance even if it means they have to move around the shop.
If i was a customer i would do that without being asked.

Hello @Cascada69 and welcome from me as well.
I can understand how you feel about going back to work. There are going to be many difficult situations for you and others around you to deal with.
It sounds as if your employer is aware of the basics of what they need to do, but if you want to re-check have a look at the link at the top of the forum Click here for our information on the coronavirus which includes some information about back to work.
Although you haven't heard from HR, is it worth trying to contact them to remind them of your particular concerns and needs?
Hope it works out OK, and please keep posting any questions you have, and we will always try to help.

Welcome to the forum @Cascada69

Sorry to hear the prospect of returning to work is causing you so much stress.

Ths Diabetes UK page about your rights at work has been updated with information around Coronavirus

If you can’t work from home and have diabetes
Your employer must make sure your workplace is safe – this means doing a risk assessment at work. Or speak to your employer about the government furlough scheme. We are calling for clearer government guidance here.
Find out more about your rights at work.

Additionally, this is the .gov page which lays out the guidance on social distancing - including in the workplace

This page links to the government guidance on steps your employer should be making to ensure your safety at work:

Hope these help 🙂
