Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I am new to this forum and have never posted on a forum before so hope I am doing this right. I am a type 2 diabetic on insulin and tablet. Nothing to do with my diabetes but I am also blind. I would be interested to hear from anyone using the freestyle Libre2 glucose testing system as I am considering trying it myself.

Hi and welcome

Yes you are doing it absolutely right. Can't begin to imagine how challenging it must be to be blind and diabetic but I know many people are of course! How long have you been diagnosed and which insulins are you using?

I have the original Libre but yet to be upgraded to the Libre 2 but we do have a few members currently using it.

Is there anything particular you would like to know about the Libre 2 system? I absolutely love the original Libre which doesn't have the alarms but I can understand how you would be interested in the Libre 2 with alarms. I don't believe the Libre has audio readings as I seem to remember this being discussed recently and I can imagine that might be a drawback with your blindness. I don't know if there are any add ons/apps which can provide that.

The iPhone app for libre includes a text to speech option which reads your blood sugar and direction of change out loud.

Good to know that thanks! I don't believe there is any option for that if you are just using the Libre reader though.

Welcome to the forum @C T

I‘ve used Libre1 off and on for years, and recently tried 2-3 sensors of Libre2, which I found to be a huge improvement. Both in terms of the alignment between fingerstick checks and sensor glucose levels, and also the optional alarms which to can set to prompt you to check your levels if they go above or below a certain point.

Particularly helpful when busy and distracted!
