Have been told by my friends for sometime to get checked for diabetes, went to the doctors last week and had blood tests and urine tests, everything came back fine, my friend has a machine thing that checks your blood, twice now I've had a reading of 23.1mmol??

Hi, I think I'd be more inclined to believe the test results that your doctor took.

He did a fasting test, the other test was done about an hour after food today? Would that make a difference?

It's now gone down to 12.3 that's about 2 hours after the last one. Does this sound normal? I've no idea about this stuff

Hi Lynnic, welcome to the forum 🙂 Not meaning to question your cleanliness, but did you wash your hands before testing on your friend's machine? There's a possibility that if you've been handling something sweet or starchy that this has affected your results. Do you have any of the symptoms of diabetes, e.g. needing to drink or pee a lot? What made your friends think you needed to be tested?

Yes, washed my hands, also this is why they told me to go to the doctors, I wee loads also sweat a lot at night, I'm also very tired a lot of the time.

When you tested on your friend's machine, how long after eating was that, and what had you eaten? It does sound rather alarming :( What results did you get at the doctor's? I'd be tempted to go back and ask to be tested again as there might have been a problem with your original tests, and you do appear to have quite pronounced symptoms. Is anyone in your family diabetic?

No one that I know of in my family are, I had eaten a bacon roll followed by a chocolate bar, this was taken about 30 mins after, it's now been around 2-3 hours and its 12.1

That's still pretty high. Normal levels should be between 3.3 and 6.0 for a non-diabetic person. What did the doctor say when you had the tests done?

When the GP said all the test's were find - did they tell you the actual results of the tests? Because sometimes what they think is fine might not be high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes, but is high enough to not be non-diabetic.

I'd go and raise it back with your GP and seek a second opinion if you have to.

He didn't say much at all, just said he would check for diabetes, he did blood tests, sent them to the hospital and said they were fine, saw him again last week and he checked my glands?? And also wants more urine tests for protein done?? He's not very good, ( got my smear tests mixed up with someone else!!)

Hmm...doesn't sound particularly reliable - is there another doctor at the practice you can see?
