Hi as you figured out I was also born in 63 but got all the way to 91 before my pancreas decided it wanted to die on me.
Born and bred in Leicester.
Yourself?

born in 63
Ha!!! All the best people were born in '63.....
Born in Kent, grew up in Hertfordshire, lived in London & Birmingham, Currently live in California.....

We're almost twins! I was born right at the end of '62 (but only because I was a month early) and also diagnosed in '91. As my consultant said at the time, I was lucky to have 29 years without it.

Hi @Radders. Strangely enough I can't really remember time before T1. Even stranger is I actually like being T1, yes it's a real pain but it's given me a purpose and a reason to be who I am. It's also made me more understanding and compassionate towards others.
I'm a bit odd I guess.

Back at the start of my diabetes journey hypo treatment was a Mars bar sometimes 2 so it's just something I remember.
Have to agree names do conjure up some interesting mental pictures.

Hi Marsbar63
Given your online moniker I can hardly believe I missed your first post. I just made it into the 1960s club so I'm a wee bit older than you, Canty, Hobie, Radders et al. With 26 years under your belt I'm sure you're going to be a boon to the forum. You certainly look strong, fit and healthy in your profile picture...so you're clearly doing something right.

Hi Marsbar63
Welcome aboard hope you enjoy sailing with us, we're a nice bunch although some of us have some very dodgy senses of humour (mentioning no names @Diabeticliberty 😉) :D

@Marsbartoastie I can't believe I'm confessing this but I have only just realised your name is Mars Bar Toastie, I was reading it as Marbs is Toastie, as in you're a fan of Marbella because it's delightfully warm. Odd thought I, yes, but being a fan of warmth myself I thought no more of it 🙄

I'm a big fan of cold weather...so Marbs being toastie would never have occurred to me. A delicious Mars Bar toastie...on the other hand...contributed in large measure to putting me on the T2 trail. My choice of moniker reminds me to stay away from my former bad habits.

Kooky my love I have learned from personal experience that it is far better to be a giddy fool than a miserable diabetic. The former doesn't really care too much about whether his test meter is reading a quarter of a point higher or lower than actual. The latter I am afraid has already lost in a war of attrition to a condition that let's face it is pretty much unbeatable. I really don't do losing 🙂 if this makes me 'laugh dodgy' then I will wear the tee shirt with my Spiderman pyjama bottoms.
