Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi everyone I am a new member, I have T2 diabetes and was diagnosed in 2012. Things have been getting worse and I am about to start a new regime to see if it helps. Use lantus pens at the moment and I am starting with Trulicity next week so wish me luck x

Welcome @Swanny26 and Good Luck 🙂 When you say that things have been getting worse, do you mean your blood sugar has been going too high? If so, how high? Do you only take the Lantus and not a faster insulin with your meals?

There are people here who take or have taken Trulicity.I hope it helps you.

Yes levels have been very high and feeling quite unwell, exhausted, can’t sleep, nauseous and run down.Taking 46 units lantus at night, but am waiting to see a dietitian and hopefully get some good advice. I have heard good things about Trulicity

That sounds horrible. High blood sugar can make you feel really rough. Hopefully, you’ll get back to more normal blood sugar and feel an awful lot better.

If you have specific questions about diet or anything at all about Type 2 do ask. Nothing is ‘silly’ or too trivial.

Thanks for your reply, my head is so mixed up I have been reading so much and watching things on YouTube that I now feel totally confused. I have tried various different eating plans but can never stick with it, and am not doing any exercise because I feel so bad. I feel it’s time to make changes and who better to get advice from than people who know what it’s like

The starting point for an ordinary type two is assessing their intake of carbohydrates.
My diet was really high in carbs as it was supposed to be reducing cholesterol. It was also low fat. It was a disaster, really.
To get back to normal I needed to go back to a low carb diet - I did Atkins for a long time. In a few weeks I was feeling so much better, and I lost weight without trying.

I think it’s important to choose something you can stick to. So you need to think about the kinds of food you like, your routine, the time you have for cooking, etc It doesn’t have to be complicated. Often diet plans have show-off type meals, but you can eat simply and still eat well.

I like using a notebook to plan meals for the week sometimes. That makes shopping easy, and takes away a lot of thought.

As you’re on insulin, I’d be very cautious about reducing carbs until you’ve seen the dietician and got some support.

Thanks I am going to wait till I have seen the dietitian before making any drastic changes only ever had one hypo and it was awful. You have been very helpful
