Hi All.

Recently (6 weeks) ago diagnoses T2.

I know very little just the basics.
I have lots of questions but 1 question I feel extremely tired at some point every day, added to that just feel pretty rotten. Is that normal?

Hi Jontyson39, welcome to the forum. there will be people who can give you more detailed answers than I can, but one of the causes of tiredness is high blood glucose levels, so it’s worth testing when you start feeling tired. It might be something as straightforward as your body adjusting to all the changes it is being put through.

Hi Jontyson and welcome. In answer to your specific question, I feel as though I have been tired, usually post lunch for years, my family laughingly called it my time for a ‘nana nap’ but it would feel like someone turning off a light and draining every single bit of energy from me. However since being diagnosed, put on Metformin, change of diet and a little more exercise things have got much better, but on some days I’m just completely knackered and need a quick nap. I am still in the process of tweaking my diet and finding out what foods do and don’t agree with me.
Have you managed to adapt your diet at all, where are you with your diabetes, bg readings, diet, weight etc as all of these will have an effect on how you feel.
Ask any questions you want as we are all happy to help and advise if we can.

I am overweight by a few stone. Lost 1 stone this past month since diagnosis

Just recently 2 days ago acquired a BG machine, readings are 15 to 18 pre and post food sometimes hitting 22. Trying to limit carbs and eat fresh veg etc. Will continue to monitor food/BG levels as need to get readings down. I started on a certain Metformin but didnt agree so I am one SR Metformin which is better but tried 2 tablets the other days which gave me stomach issues.
Is there other tabs to take or should I persevere with Metformin

Appreciate anyone's input.

How long have you been taking the 2 tabs of SR Metformin? I'd give it a few days and if you're still having probs, talk to your doc. There are other meds if Met doesn't work out for you, but it is a pretty good drug - lots of anti-inflammatory etc benefits, beyond just BG control.

Those numbers are rather high - are you eating high carb foods?

Starting to restrict carb intake, as I say its all new to me. Keeping food diary and BG levels throughout the day.
Im hoping BG come down soon as I do get pretty tired and feel lousy as times during the day.

Hi again Jonty, yes your readings are quite high, are you testing about 2 hours after food. Getting the carbs down can be fairly hard if you have always eaten quite a few of them. I struggled with the bread and croissants etc and of course potatoes, pasta and rice are not good, it reducing these should have a really good effect on your bg numbers. A big well done for having lost a stone already. You have only recently been diagnosed so don’t despair as Rome wasn’t built in a day and it is definitely a long journey. I agree with Eddy that you should give the Metformin a bit longer to see if things settle. I have had horrible nausea with mine which is slightly better now that I have delayed my other medication until later in the day.
Once again just keep asking questions, I still do, as we are all happy to help each other.

Make sure to take your Metformin with food. I usually eat 3/4 of my meal and then take the Metformin and then have the remaining food on my plate after the tablet has gone down and always take it with something substantial rather than just a small snack. There are benefits to the Metformin if you can stick with it, one being that it is an appetite suppressant, so it helps with the weight loss.
