Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi folks,I'm new here,I have just discovered that I have type 2 diabetes after a phone call from the GP's office yesterday afternoon, after having a blood test On monday,I'm being positive and want to do my best to stay healthy,my first contact with the doctor was after a bout of my private parts being itchy, which I discovered was thrush, and then the doctor asked me to go for a blood test for diabetes.
I will be seeing the team the first week in June, the nurse said to visit this site, she said I didn't have to join the forum, but I thought I would.
I will be looking for advice on food and exercise, and maybe I can help people further down the line with advice when i'm more informed.

Welcome belugalad, there are posts on food, search box top right. From Diabetes.org.uk home page there are diet suggestions too. There is the learning zone as well which you may want to do from Home Page. If you've not already been referred, ask your doctor for a referral to the Desmond course. I expect its already in hand though.

Thanks,I live with my mother as her carer,so I would have to see how things pan out in terms of leaving her to go to one of those courses as she's bedbound with dementia and needs me there to feed her and give her drinks,It's about 15 miles away and I'm a non driver

that is difficult belugalad, definitely do the Learning zone course from diabetes.org.uk home page, loads of information posted in the community as well.

Hi @belugalad glad to see you on board and welcome.🙂 Others will be along soon to give you advice on diet, your dear mum doesn`t need to be left alone, if you are willing to follow the forum and take on board advice from experienced members you will not go far wrong. I am T1 so my regime is different but with the help of this forum I have reduced my HbA1c (3 month blood test) from 156 to 39.🙂 Please know we are here for you and ask any question you like.🙂

I know it's sad,I love my mum we have lived together all our lives, she didn't manage to kick me out haha,we have carers coming in for mum to wash her and change her pads so I'm her cook and companion and waterboy,I do know a nice man that is the father of my best friend who I did ask a long time ago if he could sit with my mum if I need to go out so that may be an option,I'm hoping that the doctors aren't worried about me being a carer with diabetes,i'm sure there must be a lot of people in my shoes

Its good you have someone to call on who can sit with your Mum when needed.

Lots of members who look after family, no reason to think your big D will affect your mums care. Take care my friend and also your mum, you can fix my computer any time🙂.
