Hi,
I thought it was about time I joined the forum, having followed it since my T2 diagnosis three months ago. Then, my HbA1c was 85, but having followed a low carb diet for three months and shed over two stone, I have just heard it has dropped to 45 and I don't need to start medication! I am just a bit worried about whether I can maintain my new healthy lifestyle through the winter months, and loose the rest of the excess weight I have carried for years.
Anyone else in the same situation? It would be good to share support...

Hello Anita, and welcome to the forum!

Congratulations on your efforts & results over the past three months, and I hope you can keep it up

Hi Anita,
I completely understand what you are saying. The diet side isn’t so bad, I’ve moved from salads to stews, soups and curries, my slow cooker is a godsend. What I’m struggling with a little is my dog walking, I borrow my neighbours dog just to walk but since the clocks went back and I can no longer go to the woods in the dark, I’m slipping a little on incentive :( Then I get scared I’m going to put all my weight back on overnight 😱

Hello Anita, congratulations on your success. I am sure you will continue your progress. A few years ago I lost 5 stone over about 30 months. Once you’re in the habit of healthy eating you’ll maintain it. Weight loss might sometimes slow down a bit but as long as it’s moving in the right direction that’s no bad thing. Especially now you have found your voice on the forum!

What a brilliant start to your D life. Well done. Your excellent improvment may help to motivate you to keep giong other changes to your diet. Like others I enjoy soups and and stews. I find it is just avoiding overloading the accompaniments.

Well done and welcome to the forum 🙂. Don`t forget to share your achievements and how you done it with the rest of the members😛.

I lost 3 stones when first diagnosed, and have not put any back on. I continue to replace fat with muscle even though I do not do any structured exercise, so I don't think that there is any need to worry - just keep checking your weight and the amount of carbs you eat, as it is easy to add in a few extra carbs unintentionally, called 'carb creep', and start to add back the pounds.

Thanks! Soups and stews do sound good, I'll have to look up more recipes, so much sugar in bought soups!

Hi Cathy,
I know what you mean, walking with a dog is great, but dark nights are horrible! I'm lucky that a friend enjoys walking with me on Sunday mornings. Perhaps you could see if a friend wants to get a bit fitter with you? I've also started swimming again after a gap of many years, and am really enjoying the adults only sessions. I keep telling myself that time spent looking after myself is my top priority, and to stick with it!

Hi there, Anita.🙂 Congratulations on the weight loss and lower A1c. Good for you! 😛 I’ve just started swimming again after a long break - I’m the smiling fool in the pool, I love it so much. 🙄 How about an exercise bike for the dark winter evenings?
