Now I eat plenty of fruit and veggies, fish and chicken.

What else is good for me?

Looking forward to reading the post on here and you all have a good day.

Welcome to the forum Margaret 🙂.

I think I know what happened. My James died hence my return here. I ate all the foods I had not had for years. fish and chips victoria sponges, pork pies, you name it I ATE IT.

I also stopped smoking...strange thing though 2012 I went for mu diabetic check up, and was told \I was no long one!
So I have promised myself no more sweet items EVER. I love my fruit. tangerines my favourite. Next blood test is in November. let you know if I beat it...thanks for "listening"

You have to find a way of eating that works for you and can be maintained long term. Also to reavaluate and adjust if needs be.

I don't understand when you write no more sweet items, but you seem to be eating fruit - which is often a high carb food.
It is great that you are seeing low numbers, but do you check your blood glucose after eating starchy or sugary foods to see if you spike?
As a type two any meat is fine, as is fish, eggs, cheese, shellfish and many low carb veges and some fruits. I tend to put a limit of ten percent on carbs in any food. I do make an exception for high coco chocolate, but I eat that in small amounts, and don't buy it every week.

Hi Margaret, welcome 🙂
Sounds like you have had a few mixed messages! Most of us type 2s follow a low carb, high good fat diet. That is no pasta, rice, potatoes or bread, all starchy carbs are the worst things to push our blood sugar up. Fruit is also high in natural sugar so the guide is no more than 2 small pieces a day, but it’s bets to test and check, many people can have a few berries but sadly I can’t, we are all different so testing is key to working out what your body does or doesn’t like, I found it useful keeping a food diary for a few weeks and mapping it to my blood results. You will find all the information you need here so so take some time to read back and ask any questions you might have :D

Hello Margaret, and welcome 🙂
Sorry to hear about your James, and how his death meant you started eating all those unhealthy foods, though I can see why you'd want to eat all the things you hadn't had for all those years.

As well as veggies, fish and chicken, other things which are good for you include other meat, eggs, nuts, and full fat dairy produce (not low fat because that tends to contain sugar to stop it being so tasteless, so it's not good for diabetics).

Like others who've posted, I'd be very wary of eating too much fruit though, as it can send your blood sugar up very fast. Fruit juice is the worst, but dried fruits and exotic fruits aren't very good for diabetics either. Berries, apples, and pears are likely to be the best, but as Cathy says we are all different, so the only way to tell how different fruits (and other foods) effect you is to test your blood sugar before and after eating them a few times until you can see a pattern.

Do you have a blood sugar meter? If not, we can recommend one you can get.

By the way, I'm sure our admin, @Northerner will be able to help you post a photo, as you ask about it in your profile 🙂
