Welcome to the forum. If your HbA1C is 49mmol/mol then that would give you a diabetes diagnosis, the threshold is anything over 47mmol/mol. But non the less it does mean you have been given a wakeup call to make some lifestyle changes to bring your blood glucose level down.
Diabetes means your body is unable to cope with the amount of carbohydrates in your diet, so it is important to look at reducing your intake. Increasing exercise if you can and losing weight if you need to also helps.
This link might explain some things and give you some ideas for modifying your diet. Many find a low carb approach as described here successful. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/
Other people go down a low calorie or shakes based regime to give then a kick start but whatever you do have to be enjoyable and something that you can sustain long term and the way of eating has to become the new normal not just something for a few weeks or months.

Welcome @Tommie49 🙂 Ask any questions you want here. Nothing is too trivial or ‘silly’.
