Hi Purple Princess...diabetes can have a variety of symptoms... leg pain and cramps can occur with long term high blood sugar levels....often referred to as .diabetic peripheral neuropathy...pain... burning... tingling & numbness are common symptoms... I don't want to make you overly anxious...but it can result in serious foot and leg conditions...catching nerve damage early is important in preventing symptoms...managing that pain...cramp could help prevent any possible complications from progressing...vastly improve your partners quality of life (and yours)...have you spoken to your GP about this...if not it would be wise to contact your practice...see if you can get an appointment ASAP...just to get it checked...sooner rather than later...as for the mood swings...believe many of us have been there...could be the fluctuating blood sugars...the changes we need to make (long term)...the shock of diagnosis...can hit you hard...difficult to accept...particularly worrying if it's out of character...once your a partner finds a routine that suits him...begins to lower those blood sugars...realises it is manageable...he can get control...that should improve...it does/can get better...honestly...early days for you both...probably seems like a 'minefield' now...one step in the wrong direction...but...you're proactive...supportive...committed...he's fortunate to have you on his side (figure of speech)...the leg cramps may be transient...nothing too much to worry about...however...important to have that checked ASAP...we can't be too careful with our feet...good luck...keep us updated.
