Haha! Yes it's me being polite! Yes feeling a lot better, especially after reading all the different messages on here. Realise that everyone has been in the same boat at one time! My son and I went back to see DSN and Dietician today who were really lovely and advised to take things slowly and not be too strict on diet as long as avoids sugary drinks and sweets. Will be about 6 months before he does carb count course. Explained about the 'honeymoon period' and also they want to support him in his exams as these are the most pressing to him at the moment. I have told him not to be too hard on himself and he can always do them again. I told him I love him to bits and am proud of him just turning up for his exams 2 days after diagnosis in the hospital! Everyone is being supportive and he seems to be taking it in his stride mostly. Just hates the finger pricking. DSN has mentioned a sensor but early days yet! I thought it would be the injectioning bit that would be the problem but he doesn't mind that! He did ask if he could have a twice daily regime but advised this would restrict him as he is a typical teenager with no set routine! One bit of practical advice I would welcome is how he can carry all the paraphenalia (glucometre and insulin pen) around as hard for boys who don't go round with bags? Any tips? Are there any slimmer machines that check ketones as well? Many thanks to everyone taking the time to read this from a #comingtotermswithitmother! X
