Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi i am new to this group but have had type 2 for about 7 years.
My question is, i have been prescribed Alogliptina by my doctor after informing her of frequent stomach upsets by using Metformin for some years which was getting worse.
I notice on the product info sheet that it says it is used in conjunction with other diabetic drugs
but i am on only Alogliptina ? . Has any one else had similar problems and is taking solely Alogliptina ( trade name Vipidia ) . i would be interested to hear of your experiances and how it worked out.

Can't help but a quick google turns up a lot of Spanish sites at the top of the search list. Makes me think that this drug is favoured in Spain but not in UK and if that is the case then there might not be many in the UK that take it.

Mind you it is included in the nice guidelines for diabetes treatment but as you have noted, as an add on rather then a stand alone treatment.

Looked again and it is there as a standalone treatment if metformin "contraindicated".

I wonder if you have been prescribed it because it is top of the list? Most seem to head for a sulphonylurea - usually gliclazide.

Hi Doc b
Thanks for taking the trouble to reply.
I have been put on half dose 12.5 mg too see how i am with it. And told i will have a review in July to see how my bloods are. I was just concerned by the info leaflet but it seems that it is used on its own . Thanks again.
