Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi, I am new to the forum, I am type 2 and trying to low carb as I have been reading that some people have been able to reverse their diabetes. Has anyone got any nice recipes using quinoa? I have been getting quite hungry! Thanks Sarah-Jane x

Welcome to the forum sj342.

Quinoa - try adding any combination of veggies, particularly onion, peppers, garlic, tomatoes etc. Or have with a stir fry, in place of noodles.

Thanks, I bought some slim noodles from Holland and Barratt earlier today to try in a stir fry, but will try some quinoa in that too, thanks for the suggestion.

Low Carb Breakfast

I tried the Honestly Healthy Quinoa Breakfast recipe this morning which I think is lower than porridge oats;

Serves 4
200g Quinoa flakes
seeds of one pomegranate
75g of goji berries
1 cinnamon stick
750ml water
475ml nut milk (I used the almond milk that has been advertised on TV)
100g raspberries (I used a mix of raspberries and blueberries)

Add the quinoa, water, half of the milk and cinnamon into a pan for a few mins on a medium heat. Add the raspberries.
Head the rest of the milk in a pan.
Divide up the porridge into 4 bowls pour over some of the hot milk and add the pomegranate seeds on top.

What do other people do for a low carb breakfast?

I don't eat breakfast so can I claim that as low carb? :D

Have you tried a bit of Quinoa in some soup? That really bulks the soup out and fills you up.

new carb lower

hi my partner GAZ is type 2 received result yesterday , and obese so need to make drastic changes in his eating habits.
the problem ...he LOVES his doorstep sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and snack, his pasta and potatoes... AND he is not at all adventurous about new way of eating at all..... a mixed salad with nuts and grapefruit and parmesan cheese is the most exotic thing for him !!!!! :D :D
what can I suggest to him to replace this bad food (bread)that will tempt him as much but mainly will make him feel better
Thanks everyone

Perhaps the quickest fix, while attempting to change tastes to lower carbohydrate foods, is to concentrate on smaller portions eg slightly thinner slices of bread for sandwiches, then sandwiches made with one white slice and one wholemeal, gradually smaller piles of pasta and potato etc.
