Type 1.5 LADA
Hi, new to this but looking for support and any advice as my condition develops. Diagnosed type 2 Christmas, metformin. Bloods not any better so tests confirmed LADA March ,so on gliclazide and metformin. Daily reading been ok , hospital telephone consultations due to covid and discussed insulin but difficult taking it all in over the phone. Just a waiting game till insulin required. started carb counting for dietician sheet. Fantastic GP, been given keytone testing, and Diabetes UK info pack. Thank you for the add and any advice given 🙂

Glad that have joined us melody. I hope that now that you have the correct diagnosis, and that they are keeping a watch on things it will get a bit easier. My late onset wasn’t picked up until things got critical and I ended up with DKA. Much better to be monitored as the beta cells pack up and avoid the crises.

Keep in touch and ask away with any specific questions that you have.

Welcome to the forum @melodymum

Good that you’ve managed to get a clarification of your diagnosis and have been given an accurate classification.

Glad you are getting good support from your GP, hope you get access to insulin before long - as far as I can tell the sooner the better.

There’s an introduction to carb counting here: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-t...-and-diabetes/nuts-and-bolts-of-carb-counting

Feel free to fire away with any questions - we have several experienced LADA members, and T1s who were diagnosed in adulthood.

Hello, and welcome to the forum. I am glad you are getting support from your GP.
Carbs & Cals book/app is fantastic and can help you with carb counting.

Hello and welcome @melodymum. I also got DKA last year. May I ask what's LADA?

LADA is ‘latent autoimmune diabetes in adulthood’, it is like a slow-onset form of T1, sometimes called T1.5, whuch can initially appear to be like T2, and may even respond to T2 meds for a short while, but as the autoimmune attack continues, often quite quickly people’s BG runs out of control without the insulin they need.
