Hi, just joined today.
Does anyone know of a facebook post called Diabetes Freedom by George Reilly in America, if it works or a scam?

Hi has anyone seen a facebook post called Diabetic Freedom by George Reilly in America? Is it a scam?

Could you tell us something about it CLS?
And I'm tempted to say everything on Facebook is complete garbage!

A quick glance andit screams click bait and scam.
I can’t find any reviews which appear genuine and they’re using stock photos for the author and professor.

There are lots of very good books out there about reversing T2 by diet/lifestyle change and they don’t cost $37 - some are free on Amazon.

Hi CLS and welcome to the forum.

I am a T2D in remission like thousands of others who have done it with Low Carb High(er) Fat way of eating as used by Dr David Unwin in the NHS, also by Virta Health in the USA and also the CEO of the American Diabetes Association.
There are 2 alternative methods (plus surgery):

Very low Calorie diet aka Newcastle Diet or 800 Cal Blood Sugar diet etc. - Not sustainable once bulk of excess weight is lost.

Fasting/Intermittent Fasting. - Sustainable. Used by Dr Jason Fung in Canada.

Doe Diabetes Freedom use one of these methods? - if not it is probably a scam.

Hiya
Thanks for the welcome and for replying. It was one of those adverts on facebook that draws you in with a 'cure'. it makes you listen as they will reveal the secret ingredients that you need to reverse T2D, approx 40 mins later and with no details of the 'cure'. they ask you to pay $37......so I looked up other info on youtube and found Dr Roy Taylor from Uni of Newcastle, he seems legit, so was listening to him too.....just need advice really. The trouble is...I don't like healthy food, vegetables or salad stuff......and I have no willpower :(

Some doctors have proposed that a very low carbohydrate diet with some fasting can put diabetes into remission, notably
Roy Taylor, David Cavan, and Michael Mosely; they are well established and reliable. There are probably others that I don't know of

A very low carbohydrate diet, aka keto or ketogenic diet is also suggested, and there is loads of information on YouTube and from Amazon's book list
In fact there are so many it can be confusing
Have a look through previous Threads in the Weight Loss and Food & Carb sections

Treating diabetes requires constant, careful control and management. There is no easy or quick fix
I would be very suspicious of anything that asks you for money

As for not liking healthy food, well I'm afraid that's just tough - life ain't meant to be fair.
Perhaps it would help if you understood the basic cause of diabetes

All carbohydrates are broken down into smaller glucose molecules in our gut, then this glucose passes through the gut wall and is carried by the bloodstream into our cells to carry on the process of living
The hormone insulin enables the glucose to pass across the cell walls from the blood into the cells
If there is a lack of insulin the glucose accumulates in the bloodstream, and it is this accumulation of glucose that brings on the problems we call diabetes

Thus if you want to control and reduce diabetes by diet you must cut out starchy carbohydrates like bread, pasta, rice, & spuds, as well as the obviously junk & sugary food to reduce the load on your reduced insulin production.

Nothing in the body acts in isolation, so people with diabetes are also prone to related things like heart attacks, clogged up arteries, high blood pressure, poor circulation, being overweight, and so on
You can control and delay these things for a while with medication, but eventually they catch up with you
To do the job properly you must change what you eat and the way you're living
This means cutting out junk food like greasy pizzas, processed meat, burgers, & bad fats, salt, and increasing the amount of greenery, good oils, oily fish, and so on

Search YouTube for videos on low carb diets, aka keto diets, and diabetic diets, you might be surprised at what you can actually eat.
Especially this channel -- 'Headbanger's Kitchen'
He shows that a low carb diet doesn't have to be all lettuce leaves and fresh air -it can be fun!
Also look through the Living With Diabetes and other help boxes on the Home Page

Oh, and about willpower
I inject with insulin. When people say they don't know how i can inject myself, I say It's simple - given the choice of injecting or going blind, I tend to inject
Incidentally, it's nowhere near as bad as you might think; the hard part is keeping up the routine, not the actual injecting

If you avoid dense carbohydrate foods then you can eat anything else, some people eat mainly meat, or protein and fat type foods.

Thanks for looking....I thought I'd ask. I know that they usually are scams. I'll look into Amazon 🙂

I have not heard of that one either. I would not say everything on Facebook is garbage. Michael Moseley has a FB page. However, like what is written in the media, I take most of it with a pinch of salt until I am as certain as I can be the info is correct.

I find Michael Moseley's books very good and also Dr David Cavan's book called "Reversing your Diabetes."

Welcome to the forum @CLS

I’m afraid yes, I would view any ‘miracle cure’ online offer which quickly asks for money as a scam.

There are huge pharma companies working very hard and spending mega-bucks to develop treatments, and who have to put them through rigorous testing and need to demonstrate benefits in clinical trials... and none of them make the boasts of a ‘cure’.

As others have suggested, the best, most proven strategies for potential reversal of diabetes are generally available from published peer-reviewed research usually openly published or publicised in the media, or from freely available tried and tested, practical and pragmatic approaches such as using a BG meter to review and adjust your eating plan.

Keep asking questions, and remember diabetes is a marathon not a sprint.

There are no miracle cures! Properly qualified and sensible doctors/nurses/ Teaching professors were assuring the likes of me in 1972 that we'll more than likely have a cure within 10 years cos there's a lot of research going on! How right I was 48 years ago not to hold my breath waiting for it! Though to be absolutely fair - there certainly has been a lot of diabetes research going on ever since.
