Hi, I'm 'Ellington'. Female, in UK. Diagnosed T1, 2.5 yrs ago at age 65. (I think it was down to a strange viral infection that did it)
They say learning a new subject is good for keeping your marbles; well this has certainly been a learning curve. I'm not used to forums, don't use them and it's taken me this long to think I could join. I reckon I now know enough to not be overwhelmed. So here I am.
 
Welcome @Ellington from another late starter (T1 at 53) . There are a few of us around on here, as well as a load of experience to draw on for the answers to any questions that you have.

The diagnosis is often triggered at the time of a virus as that tips the remaining beta cells into overload as when in infection occurs we need so much more, and they finally go on strike, triggering a crisis and a diagnosis.

Glad that you have joined us and do ask any questions you have. If you fancy letting us know which insulin(s) you are using it helps us to tailor our answers.

Forums can be a bit daunting, but I think that you will find that this one is friendly and helpful.

Hiya! I'm older than you and have lapsed into being a techno dinosaur in recent years - but have mastered Zoom and all sorts of things since last year because I WANTED to!!!

It's amazing how much we can all still grasp when it suits us - so don't feel guilty!

You can do that as a signature, (Tap on your name at the top, go to Account Details then Signature) or just include it in your response in the thread. People will track through to check out that they have the info they need.
 
Signature sorted and clear @Ellington Great that you have been given the Libre. I learnt so much from using that, especially the impac5 of certain foods, effective timing of my pre-meal boluses through the day, and I found it great when exercising, as it enabled me to head off most hypos and hypers.

How have you found using FIASP?

Libre is brilliant. But as I said somewhere else today, I think I needed to go through the finger pricking, manual logging efforts first, to learn in easy stages. Trying to get hold of Libre 2 now. I don't think I would like a pump.

I know there has been a mixed response to Fiasp, but it is an improvement for me; with N'rapid I had to prebolus at least 40mins. With Fiasp I'm down to 15mins. That's manageable... usually.

The @ thing is a feature of the forum. If you use somebody's username and put a "@" in front of it then the recipient gets an alert to say they have been mentioned in a post. The alert is shown by a number appearing by the "bell" icon in the top line, alongside your user name. If you just use their name without the "@" then there is no alert.

A good way of attracting somebodys attention.
