Welcome to the forum @Shazsmith1964

Glad you have joined us, and well done for restarting your insulin injections.

Hopefully whose will help you reduce your BGs, and give you a clearer head and lift some of the exhaustion that high glucose levels can bring 🙂

Of course il be here every evening to update you and I guess we all need that push at times I guess I feel a bit embarrassed at my age I should have my self sorted, but I know it's OK to not be OK I have learnt that pride and all that, I think you know what I mean I have also decided that I will speak to my nurse I have been putting that of for a very long time so that's another step in the right direction. Eating disorders are so cruel and can really take hold of your mind I suffered belimia it never leaves you, oh dear chocolate can be a bit like the little devil who won't let you say no I wished I loved it but I'm not a massive fan I think everyone who has diabetes rebels sat some point so don't be hard on your self about it your doing really well I'm hopeing to go shopping later all for healthy foods I'm told to eat fish I've never eaten it as I gag when shopping and pass the fish counter and makes it worse when I see there eyes stareing at Me, I love homemade. Soups I love to cook good old fashion food shame I carnt eat most of it. I'm going to say goodnight and il be back later
There are so many foods out there so there is absolutely NO need to eat foods you do not like but focus on those which you do and maybe make some substitutions of the higher carb foods or reduce the portion of them.
Since you are taking insulin then keeping to low carb is not as important but what is is finding the balance between the carbs and your insulin dose.

You wouldn't believe the difference in taste between tinned sardines/pilchards/mackerel and fresh ones, pulled out of the sea and 'sorted' (ie all nasty parts we don't want to discuss thanks - plus heads fins and tails removed and chucked back in the sea by the fisherman!) before landing both them and their catch then slapped on the waiting barbecue to cook for families on the beach. Or indeed, cooked 'al plancha' routinely by beach bars in Spain, Greece etc to serve for their customers' lunch. Food of the Gods!

Decades ago at work I became involved with the Staff Association and once I got to a certain level it had regular meetings in London, over a couple of days so ate dinner in various establishments - one of which was a very old established Italian restaurant in Dean Street, Soho - which was right next door to a strip club. It was routine to come out of whatever Hotel we were staying the night in and hail black cabs for us all to get there. On the first such meeting I attended, Bob the Treasurer said 'Come in this one with us Jenny' which I did. Not knowing then what a joker he was, he asked the driver to take us to the 'XXX Club please, driver' - and the club being equally well established realised pdq where we were all really going and duly delivered us. Anyway - the reason I'm saying this is, I opted for trout with almonds as my main course and as it was proper silver service, when the waiter produced my dinner, he asked if Madam would like the head removed before he served it to my plate. Oh yes, please! said Madam - and having received several quizzical looks from my fellow diners I explained that I really couldn't stomach my dinner looking at me before I ate it, thanks! even though I knew very well that it could no longer see!

Moules Mariniere/a la creme, frites and some baguette and a carafe of white ......... Not oily fish of course but just fantastic.

So pleased to hear you are feeling more positive and have taken some steps to getting more support and stocked up on foods which will help you. Shocking that it is 3 weeks to get an appointment with the nurse, but hopefully by then you will have turned things around a little bit. Did you manage to take your Toujeo again tonight? I hope so!

I am very late getting back from shopping as I stopped at my yard on the way home to feed my horses and fasten my remaining 2 chucks away. Now having a very late evening meal of a massive plate of salad with chicken and spicy mango dressing, a drizzle of balsamic, extra salad leaves and a dollop of cheese coleslaw..... washed down with a cheeky rum and diet coke. 😎 I have really enjoyed it and pretty low carb, so hasn't needed too much insulin. Off to bed now as we are at a show with one of the horses tomorrow so it is an early start. Hope you sleep well and have a good day tomorrow.

Don't apologise for giving plenty of information although sorry to hear you have been so poorly supported and have got yourself in a muddle. Hopefully we will be able to help you straighten it out a bit.

Firstly can you give us the exact names of the insulins you take?

I am thinking your once a day is possible Tresiba? Is that right? How much do you take of that and when was the last time you injected it? Don't worry if it was quite a while ago or you can't remember but knowing ir it was yesterday or the day before or 3 days or more ago would be useful. The great thing about Tresiba is that you don't have to take it at exactly the same time every day, so it should allow for a certain flexibility with your sleep pattern.

Which insulin do you inject with your meals and how much do you inject and when was the last time you used it... just roughly?

I assume you have a means of testing your levels? Can you test now and tell us what the reading is? Don't worry about being judged if the number is high, because we have all got in a muddle from time to time and getting back into a routine is the important thing, but we need to know where you are now so that we can give appropriate advice..... So if levels are really, really high we might suggest you ring 111 or even go to hospital. But hopefully they will not be too dangerously high and we can help you to get back into a bit of a routine.

Just talking to others with diabetes really helps to know that you are not alone with it and you can get through this rough patch and feel better again.

Hi hun how did Yr horses do I was going to message you yesterday but had a blinding headache , things are going OK for me back on both insulins now and actually eating breakfast now only something small but at least I'm doing that myself and food don't have a good realshonship the main thing is I'm trying, found out Friday I may need a hip replacement but I'm not thinking about that as I'm sure there's a massive waiting list, I hope you are well and had a good weekend , xx

Sorry to hear you had a bad headache. Hope it is all cleared now. Sending you a huge "WELL DONE" on taking both your insulins and trying to eat regular meals. They are two enormous steps back to taking up the reins again with your diabetes and steering it towards better health. I know it is early days but are you seeing better results with your BG levels? And hopefully feeling less agitated and emotional as I know high levels do that to me. I sleep much better too when levels are in range, which again makes a difference to my mental health, so I hope you are starting to feel some of those benefits.

Thanks for asking but I'm afraid we didn't do well at the shows we were at. We came second from last on Saturday and last yesterday although the latter was expected as we turned out our second horse and second carriage to provide some variety to the turn outs on show, knowing that it would not be well judged but when every other vehicle in the show ring is black with a black or bay horse, it makes a change to see a varnished vehicle with cream wheels and a coloured horse. The main reason was to give the younger horse more experience of attending shows on his own. He didn't really do anything wrong, he just isn't flashy enough in his action and is probably just too laid back in temperament.... not that I am complaining. He is a sweetheart and that is all that counts as far as I am concerned. Personally I am not a fan of showing at all, but I go to support my partner. I enjoy driving and riding horses for pleasure rather than competing and just messing on with them, but i seem to spend most of my time these days supporting him. This summer has been particularly full on and still quite a few events to attend..... then we are into the hard graft of winter!

Sorry to hear you have a hip that is giving you a lot of grief and is heading towards a replacement. 5 years ago, I thought I was heading for a new knee as I was really starting to hobble with the pain, but changing my diet to low carb seems to have improved a lot of things quite dramatically including my back and knees. Not saying I am miraculously cured but I can now run down hills with minimal discomfort whereas before I was hobbling at walk in serious pain.

Anyway, just wanted to say how well you are doing. So pleased you reached out to the forum and now have an appointment with the nurse too and I really hope you will continue to post updated or shout up if you need practical or emotional support here or even a good kick up the pants.... it will be a very polite one of course as we all know how tough it is to keep plodding away at it, but if you can form a routine it is definitely easier.

Look forward to reading your next update. Good luck.
