Hi all, joined yesterday but thought i would give a bit of info about myself. I was diagnosed with lada diabetes after being referred to the doctors for tests etc by my opticians as my eye sight had deteriorated a lot and i had lost a lot of weight, during covid i was about 12 stone and am currently 6 stone 6lbs. I was put on medication by my doctor just to start me off while i waited for an appointment with the diabetes clinic, after waiting over 2 months and 2 referrals from my doctor i was still waiting, i also found oug i had cataracts but my surgery was cancelled due to my levels being unsafe for surgery. Fast forward to last Thursday and i felt so fatigued and just unwell that i went back to my doctors, who checked my urine which had sugar in it, so sent me off to a&e. Ended up staying in hospital for 5 days while they tried to get my levels under control and got me on insulin. So am very new to all this and have struggled a bit, but hopefully will get there in the end. My bg levels are still very high but suppose it is trial and error at first to get your levels where they need to be. Sorry for the long post and thank you for reading this far x

@kellie01 That's a lot to deal with and I'm sorry but having to wait for months is unacceptable. That's a lot of weight to lose and your eyes are a top priority. I'd push it in getting an appointment but I'm the same, I'm waiting to get a hospital appointment, my brother says you've got to jog them along but some staff don't like being pushed. I hope you get the levels down as a starter.

Blimey your head must be all over the place. I have no experience of LADA so cannot offer any practical advice whatsoever but just wanted to say, take care of yourself and I'm fairly sure someone will be along with plenty of experience to offer some good and clever advice.

That weight loss should have been a big red flag for Type 1 or LADA. I hope you now can get the right technology and treatment. Do ask any questions and I'm sure people will try to help.
What insulin regime are you on as that will help, apologies if you have posted that already.

Welcome to the forum @kellie01

Sorry to hear what a rough ride you had, and how drawn out your diagnosis was :(

Are you still in contact with the hospital while your doses are being adjusted? Have you been introduced to the idea of ‘carb counting’ which helps to find a balance between the carbohydrate content of your meals and the insulin doses you are taking?

Hopefully your BG levels will continue to gradually coast back down towards a more healthy range. Often they start people on fairly cautious insulin doses so that the change in BG levels happens gently over a number of weeks/months because a very sudden change can be quite hard on the fine blood vessels in the eyes and on nerve endings, so taking things more gradually can help prevent potential problems.
