Hi Everyone
I am told I am at risk of type 2 diabetes.
Looking for advice on healthy food and I am vegetarian.
a nurse tells me cottage cheese is ok?
Any advice you can give is appreciated

Were you told what your HbA1C result is as that will indicate how close to the top of the 'at risk' zone which is 42-47mmol/mol. So where you are depends on how much you need to do but it is likely some modest changes in diet by reducing your carbohydrate intake.
Cottage cheese is fine if you like it but all cheese is fine.

Vegetarian meals can be quite high carb as they often include rice, pulses and pasta but there are plenty of substitutions to reduce the cab content. I use edamame bean or black bean pasta instead of wheat based pasta as it is much lower carb. Meals based on cheese, eggs, nuts, dairy as well as veg, salads, and fruit like berries will still give you plenty of options.
 
Hi @Daisy22 and welcome to the forum - I'm not the best qualified to offer dietary advice as I'm a type 1 but cheese is fine as it doesn't contain any carbs (which is what affects your blood glucose the most) - I'm sure others who have more expertise in this area will come along and help - glad you have found us 🙂

We have all sorts of different members here finding their own way through the maze of options regarding food choices. But the good news is, it’s perfectly possible to develop a healthy and BG-friendly vegetarian way of eating that can help to steer you away from a diabetes diagnosis.

One of the biggest questions when trying to reduce your risk of developing diabetes is bound to be ‘what can I eat’. And while there are obvious things like cakes, biscuits, sweets and sugary drinks that you will want to cut out straight away, you might be surprised how much *all* carbohydrate affects your BG levels, including rice, pasta, potatoes, bread, pastry, grains, cereals and many fruits. That’s not to say you have to avoid those things entirely, but being mindful of portion sizes, and looking for some lower-carb swaps here and there can have a big impact.
