Hi there
I'm new to this page I'm not diabetic myself but am looking for advice for my dad.
He's 70yr type 2 but he's old school so if a Dr doesn't tell him to do something he won't.
He's on the usual medication for diabetes, blood pressure, gout etc.
Do you guys recommend any low carb diet books to get him started
Thanks for any help

Hello @thomasnbec, welcome to the forum.
The one that started me on the right track a few years ago was Reverse Your Diabetes - Dr David Cavan
(He is a doctor so maybe that will help!). There is also a more recent version 'Reverse Your Diabetes Diet' - a bit less descriptive text and more recipes.

Another book recommended by the forum Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker
If you look at the forum group https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/forums/recommended-books.10/, there are several other books listed.

Hope this helps

Try 'The Diabetes Code' by Dr Jason Fung.
It's often listed as the book which got many started on LCHF, but I haven't read it or anybody else's book on Diabetes myself.
I learned from the Diabetes study paper written by NHS GP Dr David Unwin (he has a practice in Stockport with a 50% remission rate for Type 2 diabetes without the serious medications i.e. Metformin is the only exception. I think his total patient number in remission is now 72 or 73.
His .pdf of the study is available on the internet, but it is a medical study , so may be too dense for an ordinary person.

I also watched man YouTube videos featuring him and downloaded his 'Sugar Equivalent Infographics' which show that all carbohydrates convert into sugars as soon as they start to be digested.

…. and the process of digestion commences as soon as we put something in our mouth, saliva flows, starch converts into glucose and that starts being absorbed into the bloodstream through the inside of the cheeks!

In other words - faster than a speeding bullet.
