New girl here!

Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi Everyone,

New here so thought i would introduce myself.

My names Chanel and I am 35 from the UK. I was diagnosed with Type 1 at the age of 7 - you would think i would have come to terms with this by now (and i have for the most part) but i still have my struggles with it.

I have decided to join here as the support that i have for my type 1 in my area is failing me. I basically have no support. My diabetic appointments never get arranged and when i do seem to get one because my numbers are improving i am just fobbed away and told to carry on doing what i am doing.

I am exhausted. So i thought i would join this to speak to like minded people who possibly feel the way I do so hopefully feel a little more supported. 🙂

Hi @Chanz1989 and welcome to the Forum 🙂. I've had it for 32 years but there are days when I struggle or get frustrated :(. I'm sorry to hear that you are getting such poor support in your area but so glad that you decided to join us. We're a friendly bunch here who are always willing to help and support others and who understand what it's like to live with the condition. Please just ask away with any questions or simply just have a rant if you're having 'one of those days' 🙂

Hi @Chanz1989 and welcome to the forum.

From what I gather, support for any type of diabetes can vary dramatically from area to area and can be very much a postcode lottery, so trust me, you are not alone by any means.

Many people here have lived with diabetes for many years, just as you have and have a wealth of combined experience dealing with all the problems that occur from time to time.

Ask any questions you wish and someone will come along with some help/advice from their personal experience.

Alan 😉

Hi @Chanz1989 and welcome to the forum - glad you have joined us - this place is full of amazing people who are all here to help each other, and like you say, the level of support you can get from your healthcare team is often not enough - we all "Get it" here - let us know whatever help and support you need and someone will always pop along with some great advice based on personal experience 🙂

Hi Chanel, I know what you mean about diabetic support, I talk to a lot of people who are diabetic and the support varies from region to region. There is great support from the people on here and remember you are not alone !

Welcome to the forum @Chanz1989

Sorry to hear that you aren’t feeling very well supported with your diabetes management :(

I’m another T1 with more than 30 years on the clock. And in forum terms that makes us relative newbies! We have a few 50-year medallists in the ranks.

Are you on pens or a pump? Which insulin(s) do you use? What’s your CGM sensor of choice? Are there any particular aspects of your diabetes management that you are finding especially annoying, frustrating, or difficult at the moment?

Welcome to the forum @Chanz1989
Very pleased that you have joined, and I hope that we can provide some of the support that you are missing at present and a lot more. Fire away with away with any questions.

welcome @Chanz1989 to this fantastic forum
think many of us lacked the support we were looking for prior to finding ourselves on here
hopefully you find what your looking for very soon

as others have already said ask the questions, whenever you want to
someone is here listening and maybe can help
