Hi All, Hope you are keeping well. I'm just wanting to ask if anyone else has one of these meters? I'm quite liking the machine, it's easy to use. I'm not completely sure how often to test. I'm doing around 4 to 6 each day.
I started off last Friday being around 4 - 5 the last few day's it's been between 6 and 9, still staying in the green. I'm just slightly unsure if this is ok, and just crack on or try to reduce it again. Thanks for any assistance provided. 🙂

Is it the Contour Next One that looks a little like a USB stick? If so I use it and find it to be a great meter and chose to switch to it from my previous Accu-Chek

Are you on any meds for your diabetes? And when are you doing the tests throughout the day? Your levels aren't too bad to be honest, when are you seeing levels in the 9's?

Are there any more specific questions you may have? xx

Thanks Kayla. Yes like a USB. I'm on Metformin 4 tablets, twice a day. Maybe 3-4 times a day testing and GL level have varied. All within the green, which is good. Just testing it out and myself too, With what I've been eating.
Sunday after no food over night - 4.9
After lunch - 9.4
Evening - 4.8
Monday Before food - 5.8
After food - 7.3
Tuesday After food - 7.7
Lunch after food - 6.3
Dinner - 6.6
Bedtime - 5.6

Today - Wednesday Before food - 6.0
After breakfast - 8.7
Before Lunch - 7.2
Mid afternoon - After snack - 4.3
After dinner and meds - 6.6
suppertime 4.4

I've set the machine to do testing, which is why there are so many. I'm going to turn if off I think.

I'm unsure if I worrying to much about it or not :?

Any help is appreciated.

It maybe because I've had some potatoes, American pancakes- 1 small one, not a lot, as know they are not good for you! :0

I'm also still feeling very dizzy throughout the day, depending what I'm doing, sometimes it just catches me out and I have a funny do! I'm not sure why this is? Is it the Metformin? All the other side effects seem to have settled now, hopefully anyway.

Thanks again for your help.

Dizziness .... what's your blood pressure doing when this happens ? and do you think your ear(s) could possibly be bunged up with wax ?

Type 2s usually test just before they start to eat, and then two hours later.
If that is what you have been doing then you are doing well.
We can't deal with carbohydrates, the sugars and starches, so they are the things to count and adjust in order to have normal blood glucose readings.

I’ve been using variations of that sort of Contour meters for years and really like them.

Checking BG before and 2hrs after food can be a really useful way of seeing how your body reacts to different foods. Because people’s reactions can be really different, and it can be impossible to say which types and amounts of carbohydrate will ‘spike’ your BG without checking for yourself.

Seeing the ‘meal rise’ you get (the difference between the before and after numbers) helps you to identify any carbs that seem to be spiking BG (initially in a way the numbers themselves matter less than the differences between them). Ideally you will ultimately want to aim for a rise of no more than 2-3 mmol/L. Once you can see how you respond to different meals you can begin experimenting with reducing amounts of carbs and trying different types (sometimes just having things at a different time of day makes a difference). Gradually tweaking and tailoring your menu to find one that suits your tastebuds, your waistline and your BG levels 🙂

If you are interested in this approach you may find test-review-adjust by Alan S a helpful framework.

Good luck and let us know how you get on 🙂
