Hello Spaghetti and welcome!
Yes, being diagnosed with diabetes is worrying and confusing, and can be overwhelming so I'll keep my advice brief -
Read as many old posts & threads as you have the stamina for, especially in Newbies and General, there's a lot of advice there
You will need to control your diet, but first try to understand what's going on and the basics, then the details will come more easily
Join Diabetes UK. They have - an interesting & useful magazine; a help line; an introductory pack for newly diagnosed
Get books on diabetes from the library. Different books will have a slightly different approach or emphasis, but they will all help you understand things and get you used to the jargon, and you can read at your own pace
You will get advice from medical staff, but you should also take an interest and responsibility for your own treatment and control
Don't be frightened by any horror stories you might hear about amputations or other problems. If you look after yourself they should not happen; unfortunately this means you will always have to be aware & careful.
Have you been put on any medication yet?
