Hi all

Was diagnosed a few weeks ago. Not given much info about what can or cant eat. Had a look on the main site and helped a bit. Been eating loads crisps and the such. So have cut these out and any other nasties too. Reduced other carbs such as mash potatoes, pasta, rice etc. Being very aware of my portion sizes and making sure I eat leafy veg as well as good protein I.e. chicken, eggs and switched to pulses too. Am I on the right track? What I can't get over is feeling hungry after a meal is this normal. I had a horrid few.days just before Christmas when on a trip to London, sweating and peeing for England. it was so embarrassing.

Hi Gas’s and welcome! You are certainly off to a good start but be careful with the pulses, are you testing your blood sugar? Type 2’s don’t usually get given testing kits but it’s really essential to work out what foods work best for you, we are all different. The hunger is your body reacting to the lack of carbs, you can manage this by increasing your healthy fats, avocado, butter, bacon etc. Don’t be afraid of a good bit of meat, can’t beat a juicy steak with a nice avocado salad 😛 Be carefwith fruit, loads of natural sugars, Espinosa the tropical fruits so try to stick to 2 small pieces a day, some can eat a few berries, lovely with a full fat Greek yoghurt! Avoid the low fat yoghurts as they tend to have more sugar.
I’m not great with technology so can’t post the link, but there is a thread on the general board that will give you loads of meal ideas. I started my journey convinced I would starve to death, now I can’t imagine ever going back to eating carbs
