Thank you so much everyone your advice is reassuring, just to expand a little; we are travelling to NYC on the QM2 ocean liner from Southampton. We chose this mode because we have found flying long haul very taxing on our son, he also suffers from cyclical vomiting disorder. We will be flying from NYC to the West Coast and already my head is spinning. Our son is basically preschool age, we are tuned into him and meet his needs in every way BUT this is terrifying in that he cannot express himself and therefore we might miss something. Our daughter has already bought him a medical bag for travelling, she said it is recognised as such when flying in the US? What concerns us most is keeping the insulin safe and at the right temperature particularly because it is so hot. Also eating out and about, his food range is very limited. Now we have another problem and I will be grateful for advice, we had to change his libre yesterday because my phone was not facilitating the app or linking. We bought a new iphone which will be with him at all times and we will link to it but it failed to connect with the libre, we kept trying but to no avail. We have changed it again this morning and if it doesn't connect this time it means another day and night of worrying until we can speak to someone. My husband is an engineer by trade and very tech savvy, so we are stumped. The diabetic team when he was in the hospital were exemplary and leaving was scary because I felt safe. They have recommended the pump and we are praying it will be in time for the holidays, we are seeing the consultant in May; he is world renowned, aren't we lucky to have chosen that hospital! You're all the best, wish we lived in the same street but then again, you'd be closing the blinds every time my front door opened!
