Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I have neuropathy in my feet. I have found that wearing socks causes me the most pain, so the question is: Does anyone have advice on what shoes I can wear without socks? Any advice greatly appreciated. I was amazed to read that my typing and memory have probably gone bad due to diabetes.😱

it doesnt seem fair does it, not only does diabetes take over your life but it has so many complications, i was suffering with neuropathy in my legs and feet so bad that i couldnt walk i have never felt pain like it in my life, and ive had 2 children. im taking pregabalin 3 times day and 75mg of amitriptyline at night and the pains have now stopped. the only trouble is that you feel very tired. i was wondering if any one else had developed a bad memory? mine is terrible,i am also totally unable to walk in a straight line, and i dont even drink, ha ha.

It's hard to tell from your nickname, but are you male or female? It would make a difference in this case 🙂

As to your question, I don't have any problems with my feet so can't help from experience, but have you tried different types of socks? If you go to a camping or outdoors shop you should be able to pick up something called 1000 mile socks.

These have a sort of built in lining that stops the socks rubbing. They are so called because they say you will not get blisters within 1000 miles of walking. Don't know if these will help or not.

Yes my memory has gone vey bad, my head feels empty just lately. I suffer with neropathy in my legs. it also cause cramp in my feet, i dont feel when my feet are freezing, or when the bath is hot when u step in. LucklyI have been on pregabalin for 4 years, this has helped with the pain but it flares up and it is difficult to stand on my legs, then they get tired and usless and wander where i don't want them to go. It feels like there being dragged along. People don't realise do they especially when your face looks well. But lukily we can still hold are heads up can't we.

I take gabapentin for my neuopathy and it seems to be helping, still getting pains at times but not so bad.
Not sure if I can suggest anything as usually the advice is to wear socks as they prevent shoes from rubbing. Have you tried the croc type shoes? they can be worn without socks, but might be too cold to wear in the winter.
