Since my last podiatrist appointment my neuropathy seems to be getting worse in my right foot. I coud've told her that myself. Anyhow did some online research put 2&2 together got 5. My reading between lines got my self some vitamin b12 tablets & as a boost some vitamin b complex both 1 a day with food. To my suprise been using them for about 10 days now and it has eased the pins and needles the pain etc... was just wondering if it could help any fellow sufferers. Nothing special just home bargains own brand missus said they cost about £3. Well worth the money.

I've read a number of posts recently about folks supplementing with vitamin B12. And it seems that diabetics can be deficient in it but I'm not sure if that's all types?

Great shout there @Hepato-pancreato
definitely worth a try, I’m going to look in HomeBargains for vitamin b12 then.

I’ve never been offered anything for my neuropathy in my feet (other than the usual check up with the podiatrist) who try’s to electrocute my feet until I feel the signal, which I don't really feel at all
my left foot is the worst for neuropathy, annoying especially as I have arthritis in the left ankle.
orthopaedic department are keeping me waiting another few years (until I’m 60) for a replacement ankle joint.

Great to hear @Hepato-pancreato - hope the relief continues.

Ted @KARNAK has lots of experience with trying to ease painful neuropathy, and may be able to offer some tips too? Not sure if B12 is something he has come across and found helpful.

Long-term therapy with metformin is known to reduce intestinal absorption of vitamin B12 and folate. one study reports a highly significant inverse correlation between the dose and duration of metformin treatment and reduced serum levels of vitamin B12, with 33% of study participants affected.5 The deficiency causes megaloblastic anaemia characterized by the development of larger than normal red blood cells (macrocytosis), and immature nuclei occurring as a result of an abnormality in DNA synthesis. This will be apparent on the full blood count (FBC) result which will show a higher than normal mean cell volume (MCV) value, although if the patient is not iron deficient this value may be within the normal range.

Good morning @Hepato-pancreato, to enable me to reply to your post can you give a short update
to all members especially Newbies of your conditions so they don`t get confused with you having
Neuropathy against the other traumatic issues you have been/going through. My first question is have
you had a diagnosis of Neuropathy because it is unusual to only have it in one limb so may be caused
by another problem, its essential your B12 levels are checked before embarking on supplements.

I say this especially in your case because I`m sure low B12 would`ve been picked up by now, although
you say it helps be aware of taking too many B12 supplements can lead to problems with the kidney`s
and liver etc and I certainly don`t wish that on anyone. I have done extensive research into different types
of Painful Diabetic Neuropathy (DPN) because it affects me a great deal but sadly I have it for life but is
controlled by medication but the pain is 24/7.

Look forward to hearing from you stay safe. Ted

My other half has to have 3 monthly B12 injections as he had been prescribed esomeprazole for a gastric problem and a side effect is that it destroys the intrinsic factor that allows the B12 to be absorbed from foods. Needless to say he was most miffed to discover this but the B12 injections worked wonders as did orthotic insoles for plantar fasciitis he had in his feet.
