Nervous newbie

I have been like this for many years now. I was always a fussy eater when I was young. No I'm not seeing anyone about it . I'm actually really over weight ( BMI 33+ ). My nurse is aware of it. She has tried to encourage me just to try and egg every day but I've not been able to.

I'm also on medication which I've just discovered can raise blood sugar a bit.

What and how much do you drink? Just wondering if you are getting calories in fluid form if the only thing you are eating is 2 packets of crisps a day and how big are those packets? Are they single portion or big sharing packs? I am not judging here as I have binge eaten in the past and still have a tendency to it, so I know I have certainly eaten multipacks or sharing packs in one sitting myself. Just trying to get an understanding of your situation.

I am just wondering if you might really be having hypos if you are eating so little and simply don't have enough glucose in your blood stream the majority of the time and then spike after your crisps but the rest of the night/day you are low. Normally your liver would push your levels back up, but if it thinks you are starving it might reduce it's output to conserve resources.

I think it might be really helpful for you to apply for a free 15 day trial of the Freestyle Libre 2Plus to monitor your levels night and day to get a better idea of how your body is responding to your very restricted diet in respect of your Blood Glucose levels. How would you feel about having the crisps but having them twice or 3 times a day rather than fasting and then eating them just in the evening. Obviously crisps are not ideal as food but perhaps you could try spreading them over the day a bit more to see if that helped.

My brother is in a similar situation in that he doesn't eat anything until 6-7pm and then has a very small meal and a hot chocolate. He has a coffee in the morning but not much else. He has become quite confused and I can see similarities with how I am when I am hypo. He is not diagnosed as diabetic and is the opposite of you in that he is not just thin, but seriously emaciated. I am starting to suspect he may be more or less constantly hypo because of the lack of glucose from food and in his case simply not having the body/liver stores to keep him topped up between meals, that it is causing his brain to die due to lack of fuel. It really is very worrying and very difficult to break such ingrained behaviour.... but not impossible.... and making small changes is the key, but you do have to want to change and you need support.

Thank you so much for your understanding and advice. I have 3 coffees with sugar in the morning then I drink water. The crisps are standard size. The nurse also said the same about the hypo's. I'm so sorry about your brother, I can't imagine having to watch him like that.
