Morning campers,

So lets say you turn up to work and have a bowl of porridge, then as you go to inject you realise you have your testing kit, you have both pens with plenty of insulin, but you have NO NEEDLES! What would you do?

Yes this is what I have done this morning! There is a word for this and it's not blackbird or thrush!

Cheers

Rossi

Go for a run ! 🙄 Ring mate ! 🙄 See if i could pick some up from hosp 🙄 What happend ? Life is not ment 2b easy, hope u got sorted !

Nightmare! I ran out of humalog at work the other week when my bg was in the teens. I was very fortunate that OH was still at home so he could bring some for me (we both work at the same place). Can anyone bring them in from home for you is there a local surgery or chemist you can go to to get needles?

Difficult - too late to say that it shows the advantage of leaving needles on pens and pencil cases to hold pen and several spare needles.

One, non ideal solution, if you can't get needles any other way, is to eat just very small portion of porridge, then eat as low carb food as possible for the rest of the day and get home with high blood sugars.

I'm not usually rude enough to pick holes in another's posting, especially not one I admire as much as you Copepod - but I do like the idea of "the rat of the day" !!!! (sorry, runs and hides behind sofa !). 😱

Is there a pharmacy nearby? I'd have nipped out to beg a couple of needles from them. Hope you find a solution Rossi 🙂

Thanks Vince, but honestly, it was a typo - meant to type rest, not rat, but perhaps I should have left it! 🙂

Thanks all,

Well I considered going home but thought 2 hrs out of the day would not be ideal, but if I had to I would. I considered the low carb day and a run but didn't think that would work, so I texted a mate but he not around, so I went to Boots and chatted to the pharmacy lady. She tried looking for an open box so I could have 1 or 2, but alas none were open, as I had my repeat on me she was more than happy for me to take a box of needles only downer was I had to pay for them, but as I said to her it's always free so doesn't hurt to pay for 1 and may teach me in the long run! I think it was just me not being awake this morning!

Lessons: Keep a repeat on you, Boots pharmacists are generally lovely people!
Oh and get more sleep.

Thanks guys/gals.

Rossi.

Haha! I was about to comment on it too, but you had edited it - thought rat of the day would be a good low-carb alternative for Rossi to try 🙂

You should be able to claim the money back Rossi 🙂

Carb free rat - sounds like a poem, Northerner? 🙂

Great that Boots could help you, Rossi - actually, I reckon they would sell you a box even without your repeat prescription form.

How?

Okay she just said she was a lot happier seeing it which I guess makes sense, but also good to hear what you say cheers.

I'm sure I've heard people on here say that they've been refunded when they take their next repeat in and just get given one box less - seems to happen more often with test strips. Hopefully someone who's done it will pipe up 🙂

Pen needles aren't POM (Prescription Only Medicine), but a pharmacist needs to be relatively sure that the buyer isn't going to use them for illegal means eg injecting illegal recreational or sports drugs. Showing an insulin pen be evidence, too.

The one time that happened to me I was lucky, my colleague who is also a T1.5 on Byetta was in the office had a spare she gave me. Since then I load up my kit bag on a Monday morning with enough needles for the whole week, plus a couple of spares just in case I get a dud.

I know - but it really amused me - I've known some "rats of the day" haven't you ? 🙂

Yep, have definitely had many a "rat of the day" in the past! I'm off to prepare for a wildlife tracking course - if I'm really lucky, I'll see a water vole ("Ratty" in Wind in the Willows), but probably at least a rabbit or squirrel or bird of some type. Actually, quite fond of rats (brown / Norway or black) too, as they're so clever, but keen to keep them away from food supplies.

While getting string from shed, chatted with neighbour and her greeny black call ducks.

Life's better with animals!
