Hi,
Very new on here and needing lots of advice at the moment sorry! Have switched from Levemir to Lantus and was on 19 units of Lantus but as my BG was constantly high changed this to 24 units and now going down rapidly all day. Was on 24 units yesterday as well and was really good but when took my next dose of 24 units this morning it is now constantly dropping so keep having to drink lucozade and eat a banana. Very alarming as have not had this before. Now scared so am having high BG just to feel safe. Any advice would be much appreciated

Hello, Anna, welcome to the forum. The first thing that strikes me is that 19-24 is a big jump. The second thing, is that a Lantus adjustment often takes three days to 'bed in' when you have changed the dose, so maybe yesterday's was just right because it hadn't fully taken effect, and now that it has, it's too much. I would suggest lowering it nearer to what it was, and (as my nurse told me) to increase gradually, allowing three days between each adjustment.

Hi. You don't mention your Bolus shots? Your Basal should be adjusted so that your blood sugar without food intake should be balanced. If your blood sugar remains high at times then adjust your Bolus ratio as that seems to need changing from what you say as well as reducing the Basal back a bit?

Hello @Anna1 saw your earlier thread, and wondered if you had ever come across the technique of systematically checking your basal insulin and adjusting it to suit you?

It was one of the best tips I first picked up from forums and I really wondered why no Dr had suggested it before!

There's a helpful write-up here: http://www.diabetes-support.org.uk/info/?page_id=120

Once you have got it more or less right you can often tweak a little here and there as the months roll by, but every now and then doing another full set of checks is very helpful - probably once or twice a year?
