Hi,
With millions of Diabetics in UK, i am amazed that there is not more "100% cocoa" chocolate (ie zero percent sugar) chocolate to buy in the shops. Why is this. The bars that you can buy cost upwards of £2 aswell. Why are they not cheaper and more common?

Not had 100% cocoa chocolate myself but I'd imagine it is very bitter, hence why there is not a lot of it about - The 75% or 85% cocoa dark chocolate bars are nice though, and you only need a couple of pieces at a time as it is so rich - for me it doesn't make my BG to rise too much either as it contains a decent level of fat - everything in moderation though

100% cocoa chocolate is incredibly bitter and therefore unpopular so there is no demand.
Many people on the forum eat one or two squares of 80% cocoa chocolate with little impact to their BG.
Lidl and Aldi have some good options which are not too expensive.

I find they go nicely with red wine.

Cocoa is expensive, so the more there is in a bar, the more the bar costs. Bars with lower percentages of cocoa mix in cheaper ingredients, so the bar costs less.
I’ve had 100% , it’s incredibly bitter, and the 'mouth feel' is quite drying. 85% is my preferred.

The 70% or 80% is found at a reasonable price at ALDI with some good flavours in 70%.
I have bought sugar free chocolates ad they are pretty revolting as they use artificial sweeteners and taste too sweet with an after taste and they are still not particularly low carb.

Sugar is much cheaper to produce than cocoa beans plus as mentioned, few people want to eat 100% cocoa solids chocolate because it is so bitter. 75% is my limit. I can eat 80% at a push but I don't particularly enjoy it and definitely not higher than that, as it is a waste of money for me.

I have always preferred dark chocolate, even as a child. 75 to 85% range is my favourite. Goes with black coffee or coffee with cream. Very rich so a few squares is enough to get that cocoa hit.
As a child I loved ice cream cones with a scoop of proper vanilla ice cream dipped in dark chocolate so it set as a rich tasting shell.

I just eat normal chocolate in moderate amounts. Like others, I find chocolate with too high a percentage of cocoa too bitter. I like 70%/75% myself but I equally like milk chocolate.

I actually tried 100% cocoa chocolate - Montezuma. OMG it was just so bitter. It stayed in the pantry for months. Nobody went near it, including me. Never again.

I tried the Lindt 100 once and thought it was vile. Lidl do an 85% which isn't bad and waitrose do a couple of different ones which taste nicer, but cost a bit more.

100% will taste absolutely terrible to the majority of people so limited market, especially given won’t be much carb difference to a much more bearable 80%

I don't have a sweet tooth or care too much for chocolate, but dark chocolate, including 100% is lovely when shaved on top of berries with cream.
