I've had seven hypo's in the last three days i feel absolutely terrible i've got no energy and all i want to do is sleep. I've reduced my lantus by one unit last night and I've halved my novorapid with my food but it's still happening and I'm not really sure what to do other than keep checking my blood sugar levels....???

I think it's due to stress and the fact that It's that time of the month at the minute but it's never been quite this bad. I've never had this many hypo's in such a short space of time. It's really getting me down.

Any help would be appreciated,thanks.

Hi Emma,

I think stress tends to increase blood sugar rather than decrease it. I had a couple of days a while back where all my readings were below 3.7 except my bedtime ones. At first I didn't know what was causing it, then realised that I'd stepped up my exercise routines over the previous week and it seems that that was having a lasting effect. Have you been especially active lately? (Building snowmen or something? 🙂) Or is it perhaps that you're experiencing the honeymoon period and your pancreas has chugged back into life just to make things awkward?

I do get periods of instability, but don't normally have to adjust my insulin by much. Sorry, I know this is not much help!

Emma you do need to ring your DSN, NOW ok.
Make sure you have plenty of glucose with you at all times.
When are you going hypo? IE after meals random times?

I tried ringing my dsn yesterday but no one could talk to me i've spoken to them this morning and they've said just do one unit to 10g of carbohydrate. I was having hypo's at random times so i've dropped my lantus again which they said was the right thing to do. I just feel so exhausted and I really need someone to talk to who's going through the same thing as me.

The only thing that is different at the minute to normal is my period but i've had diabetes for over a year and my period has never affected my sugar levels.

It has also been very cold and takes more energy to keep warm. Keep in touch with medical team and if necessary get someone to take you in to see them.

From experience and still being there to some extent stress makes the sugars rise.

Keep monitoring things and if necessary and if you are still worried, be persistent.

I really need to talk to someone who's going through the same thing as me. Is there anyone willing to spare some time and talk to me privately?

Emma, sorry you are going through such a horrible time. I cant really advise you as i this has not happened to me. Can i ask when you were diagnosed? Is it possible you are still honeymooning? My dsn told me in the beginning that if it happened to me (it didnt), that my bs would just keeep dropping even if you are to drop your insulin. I think you need to speak with yor dsn.

Also when i am on my period i reduce my insulin slightlyas i tend to get a bit lower then. try not to worry too much we are all here for a shoudler to lean on.🙂

happy to help if I can. I'll private message you with my email address etc. I had a similar experience a month or so back when I had up to five hypos a day for about a week which was horrible and came from nowhere. May be able to help in some way or at least offer a bit of moral support...?
