Hey all
I was just wondering how many of you's have Necrobiosis Lipoidica Diabeticorum?
I've got a massive patch of it on my left shin but now I get special make-up to cover it up...
It get's me down from time to time but I've had it for years now and I'm thinking why should I hide it? It's part of me!

Sounds unpleasent. Do you wear tights or trousers? Sorry I can't be of more help

Do you get Balance magazine? I have a feeling there was a feature on this in the recent (October) issue, although I can't swear to it as have recycled my copy

4 years and still no answer

hey weeone, i have a patch on my left leg measuring 3 inchs by 1.5 and a small 1 inch patch on my right shin, my specialist said this it was that (in 2010) and told me he would refer me to dermatology. 2 years after that he saw fit to see me again (should be yearly) and said it may not be that at all, refered me to dermatology (this time i have an appointment) i have been told by my practice nurse (not DSN, as they seem to ignore me too) that its an infection and not anything to do with the diabetes as it has 3 small holes that leak puss (sorry) the bottom line is, noone seems to be overly concerned about the holes in my leg that leak, despite the fact that i am type 1 diabetic and have an increased risk of loosing my bloody leg. Did u have any problems with underlying infections on yours? There was talk banded about about taking a biopsy but again that was more than 2 years ago now.😡

Hi WeeOne, I've had necrobiosis for 22 years. When they 1st appeared the diabetes specialist thought I had cancer.. which was kind of scary. I was fortunate enough to be see by a specialist visiting from the US who diagnosed it on first sight. I've had lots of treatments in the early days and I found out they were all experimental .. One actually caused me so much discomfort that I refused any further interference. My good friend who's now passed away also had these so called treatments which made his legs ulcerate and it was only once he stopped wearing the patches that they began to heal.
Needless to say I have worn the 60+denier tights (even in the extreme hot summers) and make up and only after meeting my husband and his acceptance of me and my legs do I one bare legs in the summer.
There is one trick which does work wonders ... It's a fake tan spray, spray on wash off and you can swim and sunbathe with it, it's available from most big named high street chemists and it's the best thing I've ever used!
Good luck with it and don't let it get you down 🙂

I read somewhere that necrobiosis diabeticorum can be improved with plenty of Vit D. We don't get enough in the UK because we only get enough sun from April to September and you need to be outside with 27% of your body exposed to the sun without sun screen for at least 10 mins per day to get a minimum dose of VitD. Many people with office or shop jobs can't do that.

I had a small patch about 3/4 inch in diameter but it cleared when I started taking VitD 5,000iu soft gel caps.
