My target range is 5mmol - 8mmol for all day - have I got the blood sugar target set correctly or should it be in the middle of 5 & 8

From what it says on your screen shot, you set it at the middle of the range so you would set at 6.5 as you haven't been given a specific target other than the range.

Hi @Leadinglights - thank you for your reply. I did actually contact my dsn who said she thought I should set it to 10 then the app will advise me not to correct any bgs over 10mmol - I tried to do that but you can only enter a value between 5mmol & 8.8 so I'm wondering if you're right & she's wrong hmm.

My target range is 5mmol to 8mmol but I've not got to correct anything over 10mmol.
On my accu-chek mobile meter my target range is set to 5mmol - 8mmol

Surely you don't correct if it is under 10 or have I got the wrong end of the stick.

Lol no I don't correct if it's under 10mmol only over and only when I test before a meal ie if its over 10mmol before a meal then I do my advised meal dose plus whatever correction is advised

I've set it to 6.5

I used mySugr for a few years, and my target was 5.5. My theory is that it is easier to go up than down. Probably a bit simplistic.

I think she’s wrong. If you were to set the target at 10, mysugr would try to end you up at 10 after the correction. So it probably wouldn't even suggest a correction until you’re over 13.

Hi @Robin - thanks for your reply. Do you think the target is best set to 6.5?
My actual target is 5mmol - 8mmol. Dsn has said to only correct if I'm over 10mmol.

What is your correction factor? I assume you’ve had to programme this in, ie, how many mmol does one unit of insulin drop you? (for a lot of people, it’s around three, so if you correct if you’re over 10, and your correction factor is 1unit of insulin to drop you 3mmol, one unit would bring you back to around 7. If you’re used to doing this, then set it at 7. If you’d prefer a slightly bigger drop, then leave it at 6.5. It’s going to have to 'round'it up or down, anyway, so it won’t be completely accurate.

Yes I've programmed my correction factor in to my MySugr app - my correction factor is 2mmol.
So if I correct if I'm over 10, and my correction factor is 1unit of insulin to drop me 2mmol, one unit would bring me back to around 8. Should I set it at 8?

Does this need to be set to 8mmol?

Sorry, I had to go out. I can’t advise on where you have your target set, only a DSN can do this. However, your DSN seems a bit confused.
I think the answer is, where would you feel comfortable with your blood sugar? If you like your pre meal blood sugar to be around 8, then set it at 8. then if you are 10, a correction factor of 1 will drop you there. If you prefer to see your blood sugar a bit lower, ie in the middle of your target range, then set it to the 6.5 suggested above, and if you are 10, your bolus wizard will take this into account, and will add on 1.5 units, if you’ve got a half unit pen, or maybe still a conservative 1 if you haven’t. If you were 10.5, it would advise 2 correction units, and so on.

I think I might set it to 7.0 and see what happens

That seems like a good plan, you can always tweak it up or down later if you aren’t seeing the results you want.

Thanks @Robin I wondered what you thought.
My actual target range is 5mmol - 8mmol

Hope the adjustment works well for you @mum2westiesGill

Does sound like a bit of crossed wires with your DSN. Might be worth showing them the screen when you next have an appointment?
