Hi everyone, hope all are well.
My name is David Kinzett, 42, and have decided that today is the day I begin to make a difference. I have registered an account and will shortly become a member and will begin the journey of promoting this fantastic charity.
I will keep it brief to the reason behind the passion for this, 12 years ago I lost my mum because of diabetes, she was only 45, and now my younger sister who also has Type 1 diabetes, sadly lost a leg last year and now back in hospital with other complications because of diabetes.
Enough is enough I will make it my life ambition to work alongside Diabetes UK and promote this charity, raise awareness, raise money, give all the support and help I can. I have spoken to my sister who is currently in the Isle Of Wight Hospital (Gemma Kinzett) and want to create awareness to other people of the consequences around bad health and lifestyle choices, to prevent further cases.
My aim is to link more people together that suffer the same experiences and support not just the physical aspects but the mental suffering that goes with.
I'm new to this but will be making contacts and arranging what i can to make this difference, and if anyone who reads this wants to help me or have any useful info please get in touch.

Hi and welcome.

I am so very sorry to hear about the loss of your mother so young and now your sister's problems with complications due to diabetes. I hope your aister is soon on her way to recovery.
It is wonderful that you are using those negative events to motivate you to do something positive and I wish you luck and success with that. Here on the forum, the main goal is to educate and support other diabetics and share our experiences so that people can relate to the challenges and frustrations and learn tips and techniques to cope or where to find help if things need more in depth counselling or input.
The forum itself is actually slightly independent of Diabetes UK itself but is very kindly hosted by the charity, so in posting here you will mostly get responses from people who are living with diabetes and are either here to share their knowledge and experience to help others or to gain knowledge and support because they are struggling or a mixture of both. I would hope that you can perhaps persuade your sister to join as I am sure she would find it beneficial. Just knowing that there are other people who are also struggling with the same things as you and sharing experiences of what they tried and did or did not work for them is helpful. It makes you feel more normal and if you want to have a good moan or rant about the unfairness of it all, we understand here because most of us feel like that at some point or another.

Anyway, I hope you are able to make a difference to the lives of others with diabetes in whatever way you can and please do encourage your sister to join us here if she isn't already using the forum.

Welcome to the forum @Princeton21 .
I am sorry to hear your Sister is back in hospital due to diabetes complications and you losing your mum to diabetes when she was only 45.

I wish you all the luck in your endeavour, we each in our own way try to educate others ,their are so many misconceptions about diabetes. It is an uphill struggle but we will get there eventually.
I’ve had to train many a DN ( Gp practice diabetes nurse) in my diabetes over the years I have a great one now. I think she is a closet DSN as she really knows her stuff .

Anyway good luck , I look forward to seeing you around on this site.

Please let your sister know about this peer support site, it’s a good place to come and have a bit of a rant when your a fed up with diabetes, quite a few of us have a variety of complications not all related to diabetes , so we do understand what it can be like.
