Hey Rhys.

What insulin are you on & what amount is your background?

Humalog and lantus doing 20 at mo was on 25 but had to reduce

I don't know about humalog but if you can maybe try doing a breakfast ratio of 0.5 to 10g

Have you spoken to your DSN about this?

Hi Rhys
If you were only diagnosed in May you might still be in that honeymoon phase, where your pancreas splutters away occasionally which can make things more complicated. It means your insulin needs are likely to change pretty regularly. My son had a long honeymoon period, maybe a year, during which his requirements changed almost constantly! Now his levels are more predictable.
Also, as you've noticed your ratios may well be different at different times of day too.
The only way to manage all this is to experiment and see what works, and don't be afraid to adjust the insulin yourself if you see a pattern emerging (testing before you eat and a couple of hours after meals). We kept a sort of log book with all the info in it.
If your waking numbers are consistently good that's a great start as it suggests that your background insulin is right (for the moment 🙄 so it's worth watching out for that too).

Being so newly diagnosed you could well still have some of your own insulin sloshing around as Willsmum says.

And as Laura said, if breakfast is causing you a problem it is completely fine to adjust the ratio for that time of day. You don't even need to do it in big increments like 0.5u:10g... adjusting by 10-20% can make a big difference - though you may need a phone to calculate 0.9u:10g and then round-up or round-down the dose to the nearest unit/half unit (depending on what pen you have)

Good luck with it - and check with the DSN to see what they suggest as we can't give anything other than our own experience really, rather that 'advice' as such.

I have exactly the same issue as I was only diagnosed in June and an finding I'm am low a lot rather than high went to see my DSN and she advised lowering my baseline by 2 units and having a 0.5 ratio this seems to have done the trick whilst I'm in the honeymoon period 🙂
