Thirteen years ago today, I underwent life preserving surgery. Three weeks previously it was discovered I had an apple sized tumour on my pancreas, it had to come out, along with my spleen, as could be cancerous. (It was pre- cancerous, no chemo needed. Phew!) The three weeks I spent in hospital, not even my local one but a two and a half hour round trip away one, wasn’t pleasant. It’s a big op and recovery didn’t go quite as well as was hoped. But I’m still here to tell the tale and annoy you lot early on a Saturday morning! I might now be a Type 3c diabetic, have a rubbish immune system and just recently found out I have a partial small bowel obstruction caused by scarring from my operation but I’m alive, and that’s all that matters. Obviously, I spent Christmas and New Year away from my family and that was sad, but I’ve made up for it since. Christmas and New Year happens every year, so if we have to miss the odd one with our families to potentially save lives well so be it. Mr Eggy and I will raise a glass of something cold and sparkly tonight to celebrate. 🙂
