reported in mmol for the first time as 64 which equated to 8% which equals one unhappy medusa.... although it has been recorded as my pre carb counting course one and now of course will improve so should statistically help my diabetes team prove their course works as in the past week my sugars have improved dramatically .........

Don't get down about the 8% Medusa, you know yourself you have better to come with your improvements, think how nice it will feel with the next one showing a good %.

John.

Sorry to hear you are disappointed with it Claire. Do you think it's a reasonable reflection of the past few months? Though A1c's are skewed a little toward more recent months it can take a while for any earlier wobbles to properly recede into the background :(

Glad to hear that more recent results have been better. Hope that continues for the next few months. How long will you have to wait for your next? Could you request one after a few months of better numbers?

LOL - I feel your pain.

In October 2007 I joined my other Diabetes Forum and it was explained to me how to carb-count and adjust insulin, by others giving examples of what worked for them and what they might do if ..... nobody said Do it, I want to stress that!

So I had had a little go myself by the time I went on my carb counting course in January 2008. The course was 1 day a week over 4 weeks. In the second week I just happened to go for a blood test for my A1c - purely by chance, it just happened to be due. The people who were actually attending that partic clinic had their blood tests during week 3.

On the last day those of us who'd had tests were all given the results, and compared against our previous one. I actually recorded an improvement of over 10%. 6 months later, it had gone down by another 10%+.

Don't worry - all things being equal - yours will be the same!

i had been in the low sevens prior to this one but i had a period of unexplained highs and unexplained difficulty in control for prob three to four weeks not all the time but i thought it would be enough to push it up a little.... which it did..... i feel more positive reading your responses to this so thank you i am confident it will improve 🙂 carb counting now i understand it seems to make it so much easier 🙂

next one is in 3 months then 6 months then a year all as part of the course to review progress

Keep plugging away at it. I don;t know if it's just me but I *always* seem to get a rubbish few weeks when an A1c is looming (maybe I just notice the bad results more when I'm hoping for a good result!).

I've got one coming up early summer time. My last one rose slightly following starting on the pump (not unusual apparently) so I'm hoping that I'll have a more settled period before the next one - having said that April has been RUBBISH!
