Hi, can anyone tell me if they experience episodes of sweating particularly at night? I can have three or four each night which results in little sleep! I put this down to menopause but my practice nurse says I should be well past that now. My sister-in-law (a nurse) suggested it might be due to low blood sugar levels. Is this likely?

Hi Granny Liz!

I sweat a lot in the night too, it's definitely not the menopause as I am only 28! I know my blood sugars aren't low in the night. However if I do have a hypo in the night, treat it and then go back to sleep I get really bad cold sweats. Be interesting to see if anyone else experiences this too...

Don't believe I do. I probably will now thinking about this thread. :D

Do you test your blood when you wake up with the sweats as it could potentially be a hypo if you're insulin or tablet controlled...? May be worth checking bloods at that time to rule itout if nothing else

Hiya,

Occaisionally I have woken up sweating buckets but these occurences are few and far between. Can't think why though.

It happens to me most nights, usually around 3 or 4 am. I've been taking BG readings when it happens and the jury's out at the moment as to whether it's due to hypos - sometimes I'm low, sometimes not, although the latter could always be because I'm recovering from a hypo after my liver has dumped its glucose...

Sigh! Nothing's simple!:(

i do suffer from night sweats and they can be caused by night hypo's however i havent got great control of my sugars at the min so im not sure if the night hypos are the cause. i think it is just something that the insulin does to me as even when i had good control i did have the sweats and i wasnt aware of any night hypos.

I get night sweats dreadfully most nights - husband then complains I'm throwing the covers over to him and if I go in the other room he complains I'm neglecting him ! Can't win....haven't been able to tie it down to high or low bs though. I suppose it's good to know I'm not alone in this..I'll show my husband this thread so he knows it's not personal !

hey ho..........

My bed mate has very strange temperature control - he sleeps with no clothes and no covers when I'd need a thin duvet, when it gets cold I need some clothing while he's only under the duvet, he uses a sleeping bag rated a couple of seasons less than I need when sharing a tent etc. We both like ventilation from an open window or tent flap. Sometimes we resort to having 2 single duvets instead of 1 double to solve the problems. Not a problem at present, as he's working in Antarctica for a few weeks - and probably negotiating with his room mate about having the window open!

i often like to sleep with the window open and with no covers on, but my partner refuses to have no duvet on the bed and even in the summer has a 15tog on the bed!!! lol i always say she will shrivel up like a prune, but alas she doesnt even sweat under it. i only have to put my big toe under and i sweat like a pig!!!
